LOT 1193
Karl Furr/Paul Kuhni Miniature Police Model
1893 Gatling Gun with Tripod - Serial no. 61, 22
cal., 6 inch cluster bbl., bright finish, brass
grips. Manufactured in July 1976, this is a
1/3 scale functional copy of the Colt/Gatling
Police Model 1893. An evolution of Richard
Gatling’s original 1862 design, the Model
1893 Gatling design utilizes a full brass housing
around the barrel group, which protects the
mechanism from debris, sea spray, and other
hazards, as well as the Accles pattern donut-
shaped drum magazine with on-board drive rotor, which allows for higher and
more consistent rates of fire than the gravity-fed magazines of earlier models.
The top of the body bears a reproduction of the original Colt/Gatling markings
and Karl Furr and Paul Kuhni’s markings are on the underside of the gear box
along with the July 1976 production date. The gun is installed on a folding brass
tripod. Matching exterior numbers are present throughout. Includes an adjustable
brass tiller arm and an extra brass Accles pattern drum magazine.
CONDITION: Very fine overall with the brass generally showing an attractive, lightly
aged patina and a few minor spots of verdigris/oxidation. Mechanically functions.
Estimate: 6,500 - 9,500
