The barrel has a German silver blade front sight and the one-line
“{ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY}” address reading from the
breech towards the muzzle. The cylinder displays the iconic scene of
the Texas Rangers engaged in a running battle with the Comanche
and has the noted “U.S. DRAGOONS” marking as well as “COLT’S
PATENT”. The left side of the frame has the three-line “COLT’S/
PATENT/U.S.” marking. The loading lever is marked “293.” The full
serial number “8293” is marked on the cylinder, barrel lug, frame,
trigger guard and butt. The wedge is numbered “868”. The revolver
features the classic blued finish on the barrel, cylinder, and small
parts; color casehardened finish on the frame, hammer, and loading
lever; the military style non-plated brass trigger guard and back
strap, and a varnished walnut grip. The mahogany case contains a
Dragoon flask with plunger spout, “WAT” inspection marked bullet
mold, L-shaped combination tool, several bullets, and Frederick
Joyce cap tin.
