Imperial German Kaiserliche Marine Unit
Marked DWM Model 1906 Altered First Issue
Navy Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial no.
2452a, 9 mm Luger cal., 6 inch round bbl.,
blue/straw finish, walnut grips. Manufactured
for the Imperial German Kaiserliche Marine
under contract by the Deutsche Waffen- und
Munitionsfabriken (DWM) firm c. 1906, as
one of approximately 8,000 Model 1906 Navy
Luger pistols delivered in what collectors
term the “first issue”, and subsequently
altered to “second issue” layout. These Lugers
differed from the “second
issue” examples in that
they were
delivered with
an upward
safety position
for the safety
lever, which was later
changed c. 1912 to conform with the
Imperial German Army layout. Features fixed blade front and notch
rear sights, without markings on the chamber top, two naval “crown/M” proofs on the left of the
extension with “crown” firing proofs on the left of the extension and six inch naval profile barrel,
script “DWM” monogram on the front toggle link, and an “imperial eagle” army firing proof on the
left of the breech block. The original lower safety position has the old marking milled away with
“Gesichert” re-added to the upper position. The rear grip strap is marked with a Kaiserliche Marine
unit mark “W.W./1766”, signifying use by either dockyard personal or on board ships stationed at
the Wilhelmshaven dockyards. Matching visible serial numbers on the frame and barrel, along with
matching “52” partial serial numbers on components, including the extension, but excluding the
replacement breech block and toggle links. Fitted with a pair of un-numbered checkered walnut
grips and a nickel plated magazine with a non-matching numbered hardwood base.
CONDITION: Very fine as arsenal modified to second issue configuration, retaining 80% blue finish
and 60% straw colors with some light edge wear, some minor freckling and fading on the straw
colored parts, a few small patches of spotting, some minor handling marks/scratches, and very clear
proofs. The grips are very fine with some minor handling marks in the otherwise crisp checkering.
Included magazine does not activate breech block hold open; otherwise, mechanically excellent.

DWM Model 1906 Swiss Contract Luger
Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 14152,
7.65 mm Luger Auto cal., 4 3/4 inch round
bbl., blue/straw finish, walnut grips. Manufactured in 1913, as one of 815
Model 1900/06 Luger semi-automatic pistols (serial number range 13,701 to
14,515) delivered to the Swiss government from the German Deutsche Waffen-
und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) firm as a part of the continued Swiss 1900 contract,
which came to an end the following year as a result of the outbreak of World War I,
as discussed on page 35 of “The Swiss Variations” (1992 publication) by Fred Datig. Features fixed
hooked-blade front and toggle mounted notch rear sights, The Swiss “cross-in-shield” crest marked
on top of the chamber, Swiss proofs on either side of the extension, the “DWM” monogram on the front
toggle link, a 1906 type breech block and improved extractor marked “GELADEN”, lower safety position
on the frame polished bright, a wide trigger, and a long pattern frame with a “P25” release marking on
the front under the serial number (indicating release for private purchase in 1925). Matching visible serial
numbers on the frame and barrel, with matching “52” partial serial numbers on most small parts including the
extension. Fitted with niter blue and straw colored components, a pair of unnumbered checkered
walnut grips, and a nickel plated magazine with a
unmarked walnut base.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 97% plus
original blue finish and 80% plus original
straw colors with a few scattered minor
patches of spotting/freckling, some minor
edge wear, some minor scuffing on the left side of
the frame, and a gold filled Swiss crest on the chamber.
The grips are exceptionally fine with mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.

World War I 1917 Dated DWM Model 1914 Artillery Luger Semi-
Automatic Pistol with Stock - Serial no. 9637d, 9 mm Luger cal., 7
7/8 inch round bbl., blue/straw finish, hardwood stock, hardwood grips.
This pistol features “1917” on the chamber, the “DWM” marking on the
toggle link, a blade front sight, a tangent rear sight, “crown/Gothic letter”
and “imperial eagle” proof marks, matching visible serial numbers, straw colored small
parts, and a pair of checkered hardwood grips marked “37” on the inside. The wood base of
the magazine is numbered “8200/m/+”. The board shoulder stock is numbered “2181/c” on
the attaching iron. The pistol is being de-accessioned from the famous George F. Harding Jr.
Collection at the Art Institute of Chicago (reference number 1982.2948).
CONDITION: Fine with 80% plus original blue finish, significant original straw colors, mild
wear, areas of smooth brown patina, and minimal light oxidation. The grips are good with
distinct but worn checkering. Mechanically needs work: components are absent, including
the trigger plate and extractor. The stock is very fine and has 85% plus
original finish and minor wear.

Grouping of European Aviation Badges and Memorabilia,
Chiefly World War I Era - Grouping includes two Austro-
Hungarian Army Field Pilot Badges (one with Franz Joseph I
cipher, one with Karl cipher), Europa-Union badge, memorial
medal for “The Red Baron” Manfred von Richthofen, Russian
pilot badge, brass eagle badge, two monoplane-themed
commemorative pins, a lapel button featuring a Franco-
Prussian War era Iron Cross, and a gold and white enamel
themed pin with a Luftwaffe-style eagle over an Iron Cross.
CONDITION: Fine or better overall, with some damage to the
latch on one of the monoplane pins, aged patina on the metal, and strong enamel. The Luftwaffe-themed pin may have been
“de-nazified” post-World War II, with a swastika removed and an Iron Cross installed in its place.
