Model 1896 No. 3 Semi-
Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 1781, 6.5
mm Bergmann cal., 4 3/8 inch round bbl.,
blue/straw finish, walnut grips. Manufactured c. 1896-1897 by the V. Charles
Schilling firm of Suhl, Germany, as one of approximately 4,400 Bergman
Model 1896 No. 3 pistols completed. This example is the second variant with
a rounded backstrap, which was made subsequent to the thin variant. Features
fixed blade front and dust cover top strap notch rear sights, commercial “crown/
crown/U” proofs visible on the left of the barrel and extension “278” stamped on
the left of the 6.5 mm Bergmann chambered barrel, three-line “PATENT/BREVETE/
S.G.D.Q” marked on the left of the frame, the serial number on the forward right
portion of the frame, the oval encircled Bergmann “shining mountain man” logo on the
right side plate, and “A 711” (likely an inventory number) marked on the front strap. Fitted
with a pair of checkered walnut grips stamped with matching “1781/M.B.” serial numbers on
the interiors.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 85% plus period refinished blue, 50% plus niter blue finish, and
65% plus straw colors with some scattered minor edge wear, thinning on the extension and grip
straps with mostly brown patina visible, some scattered minor visible specs of spotting/freckling,
and minor handling wear. The grips are also very fine with a crack on the underside of the right
panel and defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.

Scarce German Bergmann Model
1896 No. 2 Second Iteration “Fixed Trigger” Semi-Automatic Pocket
Pistol with En-Bloc Clip - Serial no. 579, 5mm Bergmann cal., 3 inch round
bbl., blue/straw finish, walnut grips. Manufactured c.1896-1897 as one of
approximately 2,000 Bergman Model 1896 No. 2 second iteration “fixed trigger”
pocket pistols completed. These second iteration Model 1896 No.2 pistols, with a
conventional fixed trigger and revised rimmed cartridge design, were introduced
less than a year after the introduction of the first iteration, which featured a
forward-folding hinged trigger mounted ahead of the magazine and ultimately
proved unpopular with the commercial market. Features fixed blade front and
notch rear sights, commercial “crown/crown/U” proofs on the barrel, extension, and bolt,
“611” marked on the left of the three inch round barrel, three-line “PATENT/BREVETE/S.G.D.Q”
marking on the left of the frame, the serial number on the right of the frame, along with niter
blue finished and straw colored small parts. Fitted with a pair of checkered walnut grips stamped
“579/M.B.” on the interiors. Includes a bright Bergman pattern 5 mm en-bloc clip with distinctive
rolled loop on the bottom.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally restored, retaining 90% blue finish, 70% niter blue finish,
and 60% straw colors with some light edge wear, some minor specs of pitting visible under the
finish, some discoloration on the niter blue components, some light handling wear, and clear
markings. The grips are excellent with crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The en-bloc clip is
exceptional with a few specs of freckling.

Very Scarce Bergmann Simplex Semi-
Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 2310, 8 mm
cal., 2 3/4 inch solid rib bbl., blue/straw
finish, hard rubber grips. Manufactured in Belgium c. 1897-1914
and introduced to the market in 1901 as a scaled down version of the
Model 1897 with roughly 4,000 examples produced prior to the outbreak
of World War I in 1914. Features a fixed oval blade front sight and notch
rear sight, “PAT./BREVETE/D.R.G.M.” marked on the left of the chamber,
niter blue finish and straw colored small parts, along with commercial
“crown/crown/U” proofs on the barrel, chamber, and bolt. Fitted with a
checkered hard rubber “Simplex” logo one-piece grip and an un-numbered
blued magazine with four witness holes on either side. Includes a modern custom black leatherette case
containing the pistol along with two extra blued magazines (one with three witness holes and the other with
four witness holes and the Bergmann “shining mountain man” logo stamped on the base plate).
CONDITION: Fine, retaining 70% period refinished blue finish, traces of niter blue finish, and 40% straw colors
with some minor handling marks visible under the finish, some minor pitting focused mostly on the barrel and
chamber area, brown patina visible on the balance with some scattered minor patches of spotting/freckling, and
light handling marks. The grip is also fine with chips missing from the top and bottom of the backstrap; otherwise,
defined checkering and logos. Mechanically fine. The case is very fine.

Pistol with Case - Serial no. 1266, 5 mm cal., 4 inch round bbl., blue finish, hard rubber grips. Introduced c.1897-1898, the
Charola y Anitua pistol was a contemporary to the Mauser Broomhandle pistol, while also bearing a strong mechanical and
aesthetic resemblance to the Broomhandle, with a clip-loaded internal magazine positioned ahead of the triggerguard, short
recoil action with a spring driven bolt, and a frame mounted hammer. Fixed sights, “PISTOLA AUTOMATICA PATENTE CHAROLA Y
ANITUA EIBAR” on top of the barrel, “CAL. 5 M/M” on top of the chamber, and a “Ch.y.A.” winged bullet trademark on the left side
of the frame. Fitted with a set of extended hard rubber grips with Charola y Anitua logos. Included with the pistol is a fine custom
made leather-bound case, cleaning rod, six rounds of ammunition in a stripper clip, and an unmarked modern test target.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally restored, with 85% of the blue finish, showing areas of thinning to a plum or brown
patina, bright edge wear and minor handling marks. The grips are also very fine, with areas of rubbing and detail loss in the
decoration consistent with use and handling. Mechanically functions. The case is very fine.
