Dallas also state that only 505 of the over/under shotguns were built by Boss up until 2000, of which
386 were in 12 gauge, and very few of them were completed after World War II. This fine over/under
was completed circa 1951, according to the information given on page 102 of Nigel Brown’s “British
Gunmakers Volume One: London”, and is a shining example of the post-war guns produced by Boss & Co.
Built with blacked steel bifurcated lump “ribless” barrels featuring a single bead sight, a rear sighting flat
with a gold inlaid “2”, light engraving on the barrel wings, import mark on the flat, period London nitro
proof marks, and 2 1/2 inch chambers with Boss patent ejectors. The upper barrel is engraved “BOSS &
Co.” and “41, ALBEMARLE STREET, PICCADILLY, LONDON. W.” on the right and left side respectively.
The demi-block barrels are fitted to the casehardened sidelock action which displays highly attractive
classic English bouquet and scroll engraving surrounding “Boss & Co.” signatures on either lockplate,
patent information on either side off the action bar and on the triggerplate, bright finished pegs,
and a gold inlaid “2” on the blacked toplever. The gun features bushed firing pins, a right hand rolled
triggerguard, Boss’ single trigger, lined cocking indicators, and a tang mounted automatic safety with
gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator.
The gun is fitted with an attractively figured and multi-point checkered forend with engraved iron and
Anson button release with a gold inlaid “2” as well as the ejector patent information. The straight hand
stock features the same multi-point checkering, teardrop carved drop
points, a blank gold inscription oval, and a leather covered recoil pad.
Includes a leather flat case with reproduction trade label
containing a nickel oiler, a pair of snap caps, and a two-piece
cleaning rod.
Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from
the breech both proofed at “12” (.729 inches) and measured .736/.735
inches; choke constriction .019/.009 inches; minimum wall thickness
.024/.024 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 3/16 inch drop at heel; 15 3/16
inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 8 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 95% professionally reapplied black finish with much of the loss at the
upper breech, 40% original case colors with the balance a fine silver patina, and light handling evidence.
The freshened wood is also very fine with a few minor marks and sharp checkering. Mechanically
excellent. The case is very good. A great opportunity to add one of the finest over/under shotguns ever
made by the firm that invented it!
