Exceptionally Fine, Highly Optioned Special Order
Antique Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Lightweight
Lever Action Takedown Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial
no. 90558, 30 WCF cal., 24 inch octagon lightweight bbl.,
blue finish, walnut stock. Shipped in 1900 according to the
factory letter (1897 manufacture date according to Madis’
numbers). The special order, rapid taper, lightweight barrel
is marked with the standard two-line address, two-line
nickel steel marking, and “30 W.C.F.”, all of which are offset
on the left flat to accommodate the matted section which
runs the length of the barrel on the top flat. The upper tang
is marked with the standard three-line model/trademark/
patent date marking and the serial number is on the lower
tang. The left side of the lower tang is marked “10491 XX
oF RB” and the stock mortise is marked “10491”. The barrel
is fitted with dovetailed Lyman beaded blade front, Lyman
two-leaf rear, and tang mounted peep sights.
Mounted with an oil finished, finely figured, H-style
checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber
grip cap and hard rubber shotgun buttplate. The included
factory letter confirms the current configuration including
the special order barrel matting, sights, and half magazine,
as well as receipt at the warehouse on 1 September 1900
and shipment on 19 September 1900 in order number 66585.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retains 80% plus original
blue finish, 60% original case colors, and 50% original nitre
blue on the loading gate with the balance a smooth grey
patina, concentrated primarily on the lever and receiver
around the takedown collar. The wood is very fine with
some light dings and scratches scattered throughout,
crisp checkering overall, and a fine original oil finish.
Mechanically excellent. This is an extremely attractive
Winchester Model 1894 with almost every documented
special order feature you could hope for!
