and Factory Engraved Remington
New Model No. 4 Spur Trigger
Revolver - Serial no. 15039, 41 CF
cal., 2 1/2 inch round bbl., nickel/
gold finish, hard rubber grips.
Manufactured c. 1877 to 1888, this is
a stunning, exhibition quality, factory
engraved example of Remington’s
desirable New Model No. 4 revolver.
Ornately embellished firearms such as
this were produced by all of the major
American firearms manufacturers
during the late 19th century for
display at the plethora of fairs and
trade shows that were immensely
popular during the period. This
particular revolver certainly shows
all the signs of a firearm that was
specifically produced for display at
these fairs, or alternatively was made
for a customer who saw Remington’s
displays and ordered a revolver like
what they saw. The frame, cylinder,
and barrel all show extensive
coverage and exceptionally executed
factory floral scroll engraving.
The top of the barrel is marked with
the one-line E. Remington & Sons
address and the serial number is on
the inside of the frame hidden by
the cylinder. It is fitted with a blade
front sight, integral notch rear sight,
and a pair of checkered hard rubber
grips. Includes a very attractive oak
presentation case with blank German
silver plaque on the lid and the top
edges of the lid reinforced with
German silver.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine,
retains 55% plus of the original nickel
finish on the frame and barrel and
90% of the original gold finish on the
cylinder, light edge wear, some light
surface spotting along some edges,
and crisp engraving. The grips are fine
with light wear on high spots, a few
light handling marks, and otherwise
crisp checkering. Mechanically
excellent. The case is fine with
some scattered light handling and
storage marks. A stunning, factory
engraved Remington New Model No.
4 revolver!
