Interesting Iver Johnson Co. Boston Marked Brass Deputy Sheriff Badge - Manufactured c. the late 19th to
early 20th century, this interesting deputy sheriff badge was retailed through Iver Johnson Co. of Boston in the early
1900s. This Iver Johnson Co. marking signifies the large sporting goods retail location in the former John P. Lovell Co.
building, which boasted six floors of sporting goods in downtown Boston. The oval-shaped badge is made of brass
with border and accent engraving on the front along with the stamped “DEPUTY/SHERIFF”, while the retailer’s mark is
on the back along with a “3” collection marking.
CONDITION: Very fine, showing an attractively aged patina overall with the engraving and markings remaining crisp.
An interesting sheriff’s badge with connections to one of America’s most prominent firearms companies!

Documented Iver Johnson Sporting Goods Company Shipped 6 Inch Barrel Colt Model 1877
Lightning Sheriff’s Model Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter - Serial no. 114520, 38 Long
Colt cal., 6 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, hard rubber grips. Manufactured in late 1899. The
revolver features the 6” barrel without the ejector rod. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two line
Hartford address and the left side has the “COLT. D.A. 38” caliber marking. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped
with the three-line, three patent date marking followed by the circled “Rampant Colt”. The matching serial number is
located on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. The rear face of the cylinder shows the partial serial number, “520”, and the loading
gate is marked with the assembly number “75”. Blue finish with casehardened frame, niter blue trigger, and hammer with polished sides. Fitted with
checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the tops. The accompanying factory letter addressed to Mr. George S. Lewis Jr, verifies
the serial number, caliber, 6 inch barrel with the stocks as “Not Listed”, and that it was shipped to Iver Johnson Sporting Goods Company, Boston, Mass., on
January 17, 1900. The letter also states that “A notation made in our records indicates that the Revolver described above was shipped from
our factory without the ejector.”
CONDITION: Extremely fine. The barrel retains 95% original blue finish with thinning at the muzzle which shows some smooth gray patina. The cylinder,
trigger guard and backstrap retain 85% original finish with thinning on the cylinder and trigger guard, (some smooth gray patina is present) and most of
the backstrap having a smooth gray patina. The frame retains 80% of the original case colors. The grips are very fine having faded to brown with a small
moderate scuff on the right panel, some high edge wear and crisp checkering. The markings remain sharp and clear. Mechanically excellent.

Very Fine Colt Bisley Model Single
Action Army Revolver in .38 W.C.F. -
Serial no. 318718, 38 WCF cal., 4 3/4 inch
round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, hard rubber
grips. Manufactured in 1911, this is a very fine example of Colt’s entry into the late 19th and early
20th century competition shooting market, their iconic Bisley Model. Named after the legendary Bisley
shooting ranges in England, this variation of the Single Action Army revolver was purposely designed to
meet the demands of the competition shooters of the time. According to “The 36 Calibers of the Colt Single
Action Army” by David Brown, only 12,163 Bisley Models were chambered in .38 W.C.F., making them relatively rare
compared to many configurations of the Single Action Army. The top of the barrel has the two-line address, while the left is has the “(BISLEY MODEL)”
marking and the caliber. The left of the frame is marked with the two-line patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The left of the trigger guard has
a “VP” proof and “W”. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The matching last four digits,
“8718”, are hand scratched on the inside of both grip panels. It is fitted with the standard blade front sight, frame-top groove rear sight, and a pair of
checkered hard rubber grips with Rampant Colts at the tops.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 85% plus of the original blue finish, 75% plus of the vibrant original case colors, and 80% of the bright nitre blue on the
trigger, with some light handling/holster wear and cylinder turn lines. The grips are also very fine with only the slightest handling marks and crisp
checkering. Mechanically excellent. A very fine example of Colt’s Bisley Model!
