Silver Mounted Flintlock Sporting Gun by Timper with Ottoman Barrel - NSN,
18 gauge, 37 3/4 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. This half-stock sporting
gun is signed “TIMPER” on the lock. Herr in “Der Neue Stockel” on
page 1288 lists H. Timper as active in Blankenburg, Braunschweig,
c. 1720-1750. The flat beveled lock plate features an engraved scene
of hunter with a horn and dogs pursuing a stag, chiseled scrollwork,
and a faceted pan. The Damascus barrel
bears an unknown Ottoman maker’s mark
towards the breech along with niello accented
scrollwork. The mounts are silver with rococo
scroll and hunting designs, and the stock has a
light horn forend cap, relief scroll carving, a green velvet cheek-pad with silver trim, and
a 13 3/4 inch length of pull. Sling swivels are fitted to the forend and trigger guard. The
ramrod has a horn tip.
CONDITION: Fine with bright lock, gray patina and light
Damascus patterns along the barrel as well as dark aged patina on the niello, aged
patina on the silver mounts, minor dings and scratches, distinct engraving and carving,
minor chips in the stock, some age related wear on the cheek-pad, and generally minor
overall wear. Mechanically excellent.

Chiseled and Gilded Liegeois Single Barrel Flintlock Sporting Gun with Ottoman Style
Barrel - NSN, 24 gauge, 43 1/8 inch round bbl., bright/gold finish, walnut stock. This Liege flintlock
sporting gun, dating to c. 1730, features an Ottoman style Damascus barrel with
a smooth bore, blade front sight, sighting rib and side ribs
with foliate finials, and an unknown sunken brass mark at
the breech. The lock is chiseled with a satyr mask at the rear
and martial trophies and has a faceted
priming pan. The gilt brass mounts also
feature cast, chiseled, and engraved
foliate, mask, and martial trophy
motifs, and the walnut half-stock has a
horn forend cap, relief foliate carving,
molding, a large cheekpiece, and a short 13 1/4 inch length of pull.
CONDITION: Fine overall with gray patina and distinct etched Damascus patterns along
the barrel, silver-gray patina on the lock, bright mounts, crisp designs throughout, distinct
carving, some scratches and dings on the stock, and fairly minor overall wear. The lock will drop from half-cock when the trigger is
pulled, otherwise mechanically functions.
