Excellent Early Production Colt First Series Match Target
Woodsman Semi-Automatic Pistol, Two Digit Serial Number -
Serial no. MT32, 22 LR cal., 6 5/8 inch slab side bbl., matte/gloss blue
finish, walnut grips. Manufactured in 1938, the first year of production for the Colt
First Series Match Target Woodsman pistols (approximate serial range from MT1 to
MT2899), with this example being the 32nd to be produced. Features pinned blade front
and adjustable target notch rear sights, the “MATCH/bullseye/TARGET”, “THE WOODSMAN”,
and caliber designation on the left of the barrel and slide with Rampant Colt in front of the
serrations, and serial number “MT32” on the lower left side of the magazine well/grip frame.
The trigger guard is marked with “4” over “triangle/VP” on the left side and “25” on the right.
Fitted with a desirable “elephant ear” one-piece checkered walnut grip with silver Colt medallions
inserts, and a two-tone magazine blued magazine marked “COLT WOODSMAN/CAL.22 L.R./MATCH
TARGET MOD.” on the base.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 97% plus original blue finish with some
minor edge wear, some slight thinning on the backstrap, a few very
small scattered specs of freckling, a few minor handling marks, and
crisp roll marks. The grip is also excellent with some minor age patina
to the medallions, well defined checkering, and attractive aged oil
finish. Mechanically excellent. Overall an attractive specimen of a very
early production Colt first series Match Target Woodsman pistol with
“elephant ear” grip!

Early First Year Production Colt Second Series
Woodsman Match Target Semi-Automatic Pistol,
Single-Digit Serial Number “7-S” - Serial no. 7-S, 22
LR cal., 6 inch slab side bbl., blue finish, hard rubber grips. Manufactured
in 1947, the first year of production for Colt’s second series of Woodsman
Match Target pistol production (serial number range “1-S” to “300-S”) with this
example, serial number “7-S”, being the seventh produced. Features fixed ramped
blade front and adjustable notch rear sights, a straight profile serrated trigger,
serrated front and back straps, the single-line Colt address roll-marked on the left side
of the barrel, the caliber designation roll-marked on the left side of the slide, along
with Rampant Colt over “MATCH TARGET” on the left side of the
frame and the serial number on the right side. Fitted with a pair of
contrasting colored brown/black checkered hard rubber grips and
a blued magazine marked “COLT/CAL.22L.R.” on the base.
Missing screw on the rear of the grip strap where a grip
extension was once installed.
CONDITION: Excellent plus, retaining 99% original bright blue
finish with some limited minor edge wear, a few small specs of
spotting/brown patina, and limited handling wear. The grips
are exceptionally fine with a few minor edge marks, defined
checkering, and attractive coloration. Mechanically excellent.
Overall a very attractive example of a very early first year production
Colt second series Woodsman Match Target pistol that
would be difficult to best!

Very Early First Year Production Two-Digit Serial
Number “36” Colt First Series Pre-Woodsman Semi-
Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 36, 22 LR cal., 6 5/8 inch round
bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Manufactured in 1915, the
first year of production of these classic pistols, and possibly even the first day
of production given the two-digit serial number “36”. This example is equipped
with a pencil profile barrel, adjustable front and rear sights, “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG.
CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A./PATENTED DEC. 22, 1903” marked on the top of the barrel,
“COLT AUTOMATIC/CAL. 22 LONG RIFLE” on the
left of the slide, a Rampant Colt at the left rear of
the slide, magazine marked “CAL .22/COLT” on the
baseplate, a smooth trigger, and a set of
checkered walnut grips.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 95% original blue
finish with light handling evidence, a few areas of
rubbing, and scattered minor spotting. The grips
show a few small marks and crisp checkering. There
is a slight bulge in the barrel about half way
down. Mechanically excellent.

Early Pre-Production
Serial Number “61”
Colt Camp Perry Single Shot Target Pistol - Serial
no. 61, 22 LR cal., 10 inch round bbl., blue finish,
walnut grips. Manufactured from 1920 to 1941
according to the “Blue Book Pocket Guide for Colt
Dates of Manufacture” with serial numbers 1-63 being experimental
prototype pistols built between 1920 and 1926. This model was created
by modifying an Officer’s Model frame to accept a special flat single shot
“cylinder” and was named after the site of the U.S. Target Competition
held annually at Camp Perry, Ohio. Only about 2,525 Camp Perry pistols
were manufactured including the 63 prototype revolvers like this one.
This pistol has adjustable front and rear sights, standard markings,
Rampant Colt on the sideplate, checkered trigger, hammer spur, and
backstrap, and checkered walnut grips with Colt medallions.
CONDITION: Fine, retaining 50% original blue finish with much of the
loss on the grip straps, some patches of brown patina, some thinning,
scattered minor spotting, light edge wear, and mostly crisp checkering
on the grips. Mechanically excellent.
