Exceptional Pre-World War II U.S. Marine Corps
Shipped Colt Shooting Master Double Action
Target Revolver with Factory Letter - Serial
no. 348273, 38 Special cal., 5 inch round bbl., blue finish, plastic grips.
Manufactured in 1939, the included factory letter lists the revolver as configured with
a six inch barrel in .38 caliber, blue finish, type of grips not listed, and furnished with a
square butt when included in a shipment of 10 revolvers sent to the U.S. Marine Corps
Depot Quartermaster in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 28, 1939. The factory
letter further states that the revolver was subsequently returned to Colt on November 12,
1939, and then shipped to W.S. Darley & Company in Chicago, Illinois, for Russel Meskow
of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, on May 2, 1940. Features adjustable target blade front and square
notch rear sights, the two-line Colt address and patent dates roll-marked on top of the barrel with the model and
caliber designations roll-marked on the left side, Rampant Colt on the left of the frame, widened spur on the hammer,
Colt “triangle/VP” and “4” factory proofs on the left of the trigger guard, checkered grip straps, and
“USMC PROPERTY” non-factory marking on the butt. Matching serial numbers on the
frame and crane. Fitted with a pair of checkered brown plastic grips
with silver Colt medallion inserts.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine as modified with a shortened and re-crowned barrel,
retaining 90% original bright blue finish on the frame and cylinder with a light
cylinder drag line, some light edge wear, some limited minor spotting, and clear roll-
marks. The grips are excellent, with a small chip on the butt of the right panel, and
mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.

Serial no. 1121351, 22 LR cal., 6 3/4 inch round
bbl., blue finish, plastic grips. Manufactured in 1960, features fixed
ramped blade front and adjustable target notch rear sights, a muzzle
attachment and two under-slung weight attachments on the barrel, the
two-line manufacturer’s address marked on the right of the
chamber with the caliber designation and High Standard “eagle/
banner” logo on the left side, the “HI-STANDARD” marking on the
left of the slide with a matching serial number and the “103” model
designation on the right side, the serial number on the right side of
the frame, along with the model name and U.S. property marking
on the left side of the frame. Fitted with a pair of dark brown
checkered plastic grips with brass High Standard “eagle/banner” medallion inserts and a
full-blued magazine marked “HI-STANDARD” on the base. Includes a U.S. Government Bill of
Lading document, with matching serial number to the pistol, addressed from the U.S. Red
River Army Depot in Texarkana, Texas, to an individual in Astoria, Illinois.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 95% original blue finish with some scattered minor edge
wear, a few scattered minor patches of spotting/freckling, some dried grease, some minor
handling wear, and crisp markings. The grips are very fine with some light handling wear in
the otherwise well-defined checkering and a mild chip out of the underside of the left panel.
Mechanically excellent.

Desirable 2 Inch Barrel
and Factory Letter - Serial

2 inch round bbl., “midnight
black” parkerized finish, walnut
grips. Manufactured in 1942, at the
height of World War II, this is a solid example of Smith & Wesson’s
Victory Model with the rare and desirable 2 inch barrel. The included factory letter lists the
revolver with a 2 inch barrel and “midnight black” parkerized finish when delivered to the
U.S. Government at Fort Mason, California, on 1 December 1942, as part of a shipment of
200 guns in this configuration. In addition to the clandestine services such as the Office
of Strategic Services (OSS), forerunner to the CIA, these 2” revolvers were also issued to
special security details guarding sensitive locations within the U.S., as well as various aircraft
crews throughout the war. The left side of the barrel has the two-line Smith & Wesson and
caliber marking. The U.S. property marking is on the top strap, while the Smith & Wesson
trademark and “MADE IN U.S.A.” markings are on the right. “R2500” is electro penciled under
the trademark on the right. The serial number is marked on the butt. It is fitted with standard
sights, smooth walnut grips, and a lanyard loop on the butt.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% of the original “midnight black” parkerized finish with fading
to smooth grey/brown patina. The grips are also fine with mild wear and some scattered
light scratches and dings.
Mechanically excellent.

Outstanding World War II 1945 Production U.S.
Remington-Rand Model 1911A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol -
Serial no. 2445318, 45 ACP cal., 5 inch round bbl., parkerized/
blue finish, plastic grips. Manufactured in 1945, the last year
of U.S. Model 1911A1 pistol production at Remington-Rand,
reportedly ending at serial number 2,465,139. Features fixed blade front and notch rear
sights, a correct blued barrel marked with “P” and “HS” (High Standard) on the recoil lug, the
correct third type two-line “REMINGTON RAND INC./SYRACUSE, N.Y. U.S.A.” address marked
on the left of the slide with a “P” proof on top, “FJA” (Frank J. Atwood) inspector’s initials and “P” marked
on the left of the frame with the U.S. property marking, serial number, and model designation on the right
side, along with a “4” factory proof on the left of the trigger guard with “O” and “7” on the right side. Fitted with
a checkered short-stamped trigger, magazine release, thumb safety, and narrow-spur hammer, serrated slide
catch and arched mainspring housing, a pair of Keyes Fibre Co. checkered brown plastic grips marked “star/K” on
the interiors, and a full-blued magazine marked “G” on the toe.
CONDITION: Excellent plus, retaining 98% plus original parkerized and 99% plus original blue finishes with some
minor brown discoloration/freckling on either side of the slide near the muzzle,
some minor edge wear, some minor handling evidence, and clear markings. The
grips are also excellent with mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
Overall a very attractive example of a 1945 production
U.S. Remington-Rand M1911A1 pistol!

World War I U.S. Colt Model 1911 Semi-Automatic
Pistol - Serial no. 293713, 45 ACP cal., 5 inch round bbl., blue
finish, walnut grips. Manufactured in 1918 and shipped to
Springfield Armory in May of the same year, well before the
end of World War I. The left of the slide is marked with the two-
line, two-block patent dates and address with the Rampant Colt , while the right has the
standard “MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY” marking. The left of the frame has the U.S. property
marking and “JMG” inspection mark and the serial number is on the right. The full blued barrel
is marked “5” on the bottom, “P/H” on top of the chamber hood, and a rubber bushing is installed on the
recoil spring guide. Fitted with blade and notch sights, wide checkered hammer, long smooth trigger, short
grip safety, correct diamond pattern checkered walnut grips, and an unmarked two-tone magazine with
lanyard loop base.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 80% plus of the original blue finish with the balance having
thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina, most noticeably
on the grip straps and high edges. The grips are also very
fine with a few scattered minor dings and otherwise crisp
checkering. Mechanically excellent.
