Attractive Factory Game
Scene Engraved W. W. Greener Grade L90 Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 64293, 12
gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1913 according to page 199 of “The Greener Story” by
Graham Greener. Built with blued Wrought Steel barrels featuring a single brass bead sight on the matted concave solid rib which is signed
“W.W. GREENER. MAKER. 29 PALL MALL. LONDON. WORKS St. MARYS SQUARE. BIRMINGHAM”, front sling swivel, wedges of foliate scroll at the
breech, period Birmingham proof marks, import mark under the forend, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the
casehardened sidelock bar-action with hidden Greener crossbolt featuring scalloped fences as well as wonderfully cut full coverage foliate scroll
engraving surrounding “W.W. GREENER” signatures on either lockplate and four beautifully executed and highly detail game scenes.
The scenes consist of a spaniel flushing a nide of pheasant cocks on the left lockplate, a pair of dogs
flushing a covey of quail on the right lockplate, a dog flushing covey of partridge on the underside, and a
dog retrieving a hare on the trigger guard. The engraving extends to the toplever and both tangs, the
bottom of which bears the serial number and the “GRADE/L90” marking. The gun features gold
centerlined cocking indicators, double triggers, and a tang mounted manual
safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted with a beautifully
figured and multi-point checkered forend with engraved iron, Deeley
release, and a fancy horn tip inlay as well as a semi-pistol grip
stock with tear drop carved flats, rear sling swivel, blank
gold inscription oval, and a serrated horn buttplate. Barrel
and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches
from the breech proofed at “12” (.729 inches) and measured
.731/.732 inches; choke constriction .023/.036 inches;
minimum wall thickness .027/.027 inches; 1 11/16 inch
drop at comb; 2 5/8 inch drop at heel; 13 15/16 inch
length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 3 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine overall, retaining 98% original blue
finish, 50% original case colors with the balance an attractive silver, some light
handling evidence, a few tiny freckles of spotting, a few light marks in the wood, a tiny
crack behind the left lockplate, and crisp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.

Factory Engraved G & S Holloway Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 12826, 12 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl.,
black/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Completed in 1923 according to page 111 of Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers Volume Two: Birmingham,
Scotland & the Regions”. Built with blued steel barrels featuring a single bead sight on the matted flat tapered solid rib, “G & S. HOLLOWAY” and “IMPERIAL
WORKS, BIRMINGHAM” marked on the right and left tube respectively, light engraving at the breech, import mark under forend, period
Birmingham nitro proofs, and 2 3/4 inch chamber with Southgate ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the
casehardened H&H style bar-action sidelock action with hidden third fastener which displays ribbon carved
fences and near full coverage classic English bouquet and scroll engraving surrounding “G & S HOLLOWAY”
banners on either lockplate and extending to the toplever, trigger guard, and both tangs. The
gun features an H&H style single trigger and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold
inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and multi-point
checkered splinter forend with engraved iron and Anson button release as well as a
semi-pistol grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, blank gold inscription oval,
and a Silver’s type recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter
nine inches from the breech proofed “13/1” (.719 inches) and measured .731 inches;
choke constriction .015/.037 inches; minimum wall thickness .027/.031 inches; 1 3/8
inch drop at comb; 1 5/16 inch drop at heel; 13 7/8 inch length of pull;
slight cast-on; weight 7 lbs. 4 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine overall, retaining 90% original black finish with some patches
of thinning, 70% original case colors on the action with the remainder a fine muted tone, mild handling
evidence, a few tiny freckles of spotting, a small hairline crack at the rear of the left lockplate, and crisp
checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically functions, barrels slightly loose on face.
