The sunken portion of the rib is signed “John Rigby & Co.” in gold
with a smaller “PASO ROBLES, CA” beside it, “500 NE” in gold on the
quarter rib along with flourishes of floral scroll engraving, and a one
inch wedge of scroll engraving at either breech. The barrels are fitted
to a casehardened bolstered action with clipped fences and Greener
crossbolt which displays gorgeous embellishment by renowned
American Master Engraver Lisa Tomlin who has signed the piece “LJ
TOMLIN” on the triggerplate. The engraving consists of beautifully
executed foliate scroll engraving over a matted background surrounded
by gold wire borders which also surround a trio of stunning game
scenes. The game scenes show a pair of cape buffalo in the bush on
the left with one of them inlaid in gold, the right has a pair of reposed
male lions with one inlaid in gold, and the underside displays a gold
inlaid bull elephant on the savanna looking toward the observer. The
case colors are intentionally muted to highlight the engraving. Both
sideplates show gold inlaid “J. Rigby & Co.” signatures, the trigger
guard is inlaid “J/M/G” in gold, and the serial number is in gold on
the lower tang. The rifle features bushed firing pins, double triggers,
ribbed cocking indicators, and a tang mounted manual safety with
gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The rifle is fitted with a handsomely figured
California English walnut beavertail forend with multi-point checkering
matching scroll engraved blued iron. The pistol grip stock is of the same
wonderful quality and features matching checkering, teardrop carved
drop points, shadowline cheekpiece, blued steel trapdoor grip cap with
Rigby logo in gold, and a black rubber recoil pad.
