The quality and style of the relief engraving appears to have been
performed by the same skilled hand that engraved Savage Arms
CEO Ronald Coburn’s rifle, serial number 1160000, which also has
the same Savage Indian head logo on bottom, recently sold by Rock
Island Auction Company (May 2025 Auction 4094, Lot 1055), which
is featured on pages 118-120 of “A Collector’s Guide to the Savage 99
Rifle” as well as on pages 278-281 of “Savage Model 1895, 1899 & 99
Rifles Volume 2, Engraved and Special-Feature Models” by David Royal.
The barrel has a ramped beaded blade front sight, flip-up adjustable
notch rear sight, with Savage Arms Utica, New York, address on
top of the barrel and “.300 SAVAGE” on the upper left, jeweled bolt,
safety mounted on top of the receiver along with a loaded chamber
indicator, cartridge counter on the left of the receiver, a checkered
fancy walnut forearm, and checkered fancy walnut pistol grip
buttstock, with a serrated metal buttplate.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 99% blue finish on the barrel and 99%
matte gray finish on the action, with absolutely sharp engraving.
Wood is also excellent with distinct edges, a few minor handling
marks, and very crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
