Military Industries 7.62x51mm “Galatz” Galil Sniper Rifle with Scope, Case
and Accessories - Serial no. 9-2000152AAL, 7.62x51 cal., 20 inch round bbl.,
black finish, hardwood stock, plastic grips. Introduced in 1983, the Galil Sniper (called the Galatz as a contraction of the designation
“Galil Tzalafim”) bears a similar profile to the earlier Soviet Dragunov SVD rifle, in both design and doctrine of use. It is designed to fire
the standard 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, configured for semi-automatic operation only. Reportedly only 16 were imported to the
U.S. It is fitted with a heavyweight barrel with a dual-purpose flash hider/muzzle brake. It still retains a traditional set of flip-up iron
sights with the high visibility night dots. It is fitted with a very heavy set of hardwood forearm and buttstock. The front underside
of the receiver is fitted with a forward folding bipod, similar to the Russian SVD and Swiss K31/55 sniper rifles. The bipod features
a set of individually adjustable spring loaded legs, and it folds up under the forend. The large/heavy buttstock has an adjustable
cheekpiece and recoil pad that folds to the right for ease of transport and storage. The left side of the receiver is fitted with a permanently attached scope mounting rail which is currently fitted with the standard Israeli “Nimrod” sniper scope. The scope is a 6x with a 40mm front lens, and it has the large, click adjustable windage and elevation knobs. The elevation knob is marked “M118” indicating it has been calibrated for use with the Israeli version of the GI M118 National Match ammunition. The scope is fitted with a graduated crosshair reticle with integral stadiametric range finder similar to the Russian SVD reticle. The side of the scope mount is numbered “9-2000152”. Includes an original Israeli soft transport case with a tan synthetic exterior and a heavily padded foam interior. It is designed to house the rifle with the stock folded and scope mounted. Also included is two lens filters (amber and dark), an eye cup for the scope, and a night vision scope mount.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 95% plus original black finish with scattered light dings and scratches, a safety drag line, and some handling marks. Wood is very fine with storage and handling marks, and a few light dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. Scope is very fine with clear optics and a crisp reticle. Case is very fine with storage and handling marks.
