Blued steel barrels with Henry patent rifling, blade front and three position (two folding, one standing) rear sights on the wide matted solid rib which is signed “WALSH LOVETT & CO. LONDON.” and “981”, light engraving at either breech, and chambers
with a single extractor. The casehardened rotary underlever backaction displays floral scroll engraving surrounding four separate game scenes. The left lockplate shows an African lion, the left of the receiver shows a running bison, the right lockplate

Engraved Joh. Springer Back Action Rotary Underlever Hammer Double Rifle - Serial no. 8950, 500 cal., 26 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrels with matted solid rib, “JOH. SPRINGER’S ERBEN IN WIEN” and “K.v.K. KAMMER GEWEHR LIEFERANTEN” on the left and right respectively, and single extractor for both chambers. “11.2” is marked on the underside of the barrels, possibly for a .500 black powder express chambering. The casehardened rotary underlever receiver with double set triggers and rebounding back action locks display beautiful tight
scrollwork with attractive bordering. Both locks are marked “JOH. SPRINGER’S/ERBEN IN WIEN”, and the sides of the receiver are signed in the same fashion as
the barrels above. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with rotary latch and engraved fitting and pistol grip stock with engraved grip cap inscription oval marked “Y.K.”, and engraved trapdoor buttplate. Length of pull 14 3/8 inches. Weight 8 lbs 13 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 90% original blue on the barrels with some plum patina, 70% case colors with the balance fading to silver, some spotting and scratches along the barrels, and some corrosion around the barrel loop. The wood is also very fine with some dings and scratches and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.

a leather bound takedown case with “R.F.T.” on the lid and E. Wilson label and containing an oiler and leather straps. Length of pull 14 1/4 inches. Weight 9 lbs.
CONDITION: Fine, retaining 50% original blue with areas of thinning and brown
patination, grey and brown patina covering the locks and receiver, and light handling evidence. The wood is very
good with numerous dings and scratches, some shrinkage at the butt, and well-defined checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. Case is very good with minor handling/storage marks. Estimate: 3,000 - 5,000

Beautifully figured fancy checkered splinter forend with a engraved fittings, contrasting tip inlay, and Deeley latch release and a round knob pistol grip stock with blank inscription oval and engraved steel buttplate.
Includes a brass slip on muzzle and sight protector. Birmingham black powder proof marks for 80 bore, probably chambered for .450/400 black powder express. 13 13/16 inch length

CONDITION: Very good, retaining 85% plus period reapplied blue finish, attractive silver patination on the locks and receiver, worn recut checkering on the forend, and well-defined checkering on the stock. The forend is slightly loose; otherwise,
mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,500 - 4,000
LOT 3394 Engraved Joh. Springer Back Action Rotary Underlever Hammer Double Rifle with Scope - Serial no. 9448, 7x57 mm cal., 23 3/4 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Blued Bohler Spezial Stahl chopperlump barrels with raised beaded blade front sight, fixed notch rear sight, and German style claw mounts on the matted solid rib. The barrels show multiple proofs from the Ferlach proofhouse, most recently in 1966. The casehardened backaction locks and side-clipped underlever action display beautiful floral scroll engraving with “JOH. SPRINGER’S ERBEN IN WIEN” on the left and “K.v.K. KAMMER GEWEHR LIEFERANTEN” on the right. The rifle features double set triggers and rebounding hammers. Beautifully flame figured, fully checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings including the rotary latch release and multi-point checkered pistol grip with engraved steel grip cap, sprung two position comb for iron sight and scoped shooting, and red rubber recoil pad. Includes a Hensoldt Wetzlar “Diasta” 4x32 scope and leather sling. Length of pull 14 5/8 inches. Weight 8 lbs 7 oz (scope included). CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 85% blue on the barrels with thinning in some areas, 50% original case colors with the balance an attractive silver patina, a few areas of light spotting, and light handling evidence. The wood is also very fine with a few light marks and crisp checkering. The scope optics are sharp. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,500
