Exceptional Ken Hunt Signed, Master Game Scene Engraved, and Gold Inlaid James Purdey & Sons Sidelock Over/Under Ejector Shotgun Two Barrel Set with Case - Serial no. 27927, 12 gauge, 26 inch vent rib bbl., blue/casehardened/gold finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrels with single steel bead sight on the matted vent rib which is marked with a gold inlaid “I”, “J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. ENGLAND.” on the left side of the upper barrel, single bands of engraving at the upper breech, 1973 dated London proofs, chambers proved at 2 3/4 inches with automatic ejectors, and chokes marked at “45%”/”55%”. The casehardened sidelock action displays fantastic deep chisel cut floral scrollwork surrounding “J. PURDEY & SONS” banners on either side and a trio of gold inlaid game scene. The left shows a pair of mallards over a marsh scene, the right has a pair of pheasants in flight over an upland scene, and the underside shows three mallards in flight over a marsh. The scroll engraving continues on the toplever, tangs, and trigger guard and is signed “K. C. Hunt Eng.” ahead of the trigger guard for the highly sought after master engraved Ken Hunt. The gun features a single selective trigger, rolled right-hand trigger guard, and a tang mounted automatic safety switch with gold inlaid “SAFE”. Beautifully figured, exhibition quality, multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings, including the Anson button release and pistol grip stock with teardrop carved flats, rosewood gripcap, blank inscription oval, and checkered bare butt.
