Model 1914 Artillery Luger Rig Complete with Three Matching Magazines, 1915 Dated Leather Holster, Matching Wood Board Shoulder Stock, Leather Double Magazine Pouch and Shoulder Straps - Serial
no. 3731a, 9 mm Luger cal., 8 inch round bbl., blue finish, checkered walnut grips. This is a beautiful, well documented and well known original and all matching 1915 dated Model 1914 Artillery Luger rig. This beautiful Luger rig is complete with the matching serialized artillery board stock, three matching magazines, the leather holster and double magazine pouch. This rig was formerly in the E.M. Korzenewski collection, and is the exact Luger as pictured on page 171 of “Lugers at Random” by Charles Kenyon Jr., and on page 96 (bottom left) of the book “Luger: The Multi-National Pistol” by Charles Kenyon Jr/Ellis. These pistols were originally intended to be a light substitute for the standard GEW/98a rifles as used by machine gun and artillery crews. The top of the barrel extension is dated 1915 for the year of manufacture and the toggle is marked “DWM” for Deutsches Waffen Und Munitions. The right side of the barrel extension has the three, crown over script letter proofs next to the Imperial eagle proof. The Imperial eagle proof is also marked on the right rear side of the barrel and left side of the breechblock. The left side of the barrel extension, underside of the barrel and front of the frame all carry the full serial number with the various small parts correctly numbered with the last two digits (31) of the serial number. The bottom of the barrel has the correct serial number and bore diameter. It is correctly marked “GESICHERT” and “GELADEN” on the safety and extractor, respectively. It has the original tangent rear sight with the inverted “V” front blade. As noted the three magazines that accompany this lot all have the nickel plated magazine body with the wooden bases that are stamped with serial number “3731/a”, with both spare magazine correctly stamped with the additional “+” denoting them as spare magazines. The wooden board shoulder stock is matching (but unproofed) that has the original matching attaching iron that is correctly numbered “3731/a” on top. This rig is accompanied by an original brown leather holster that is stamped on the front of the holster; “Ernst Seigemund/ Dresden/1915”. Inside the upper edge of the flap it is ink stamped, with what appears to read “U. A. XII 35”.
The holster is complete with an original
Imperial proof takedown tool and WWI, wood
handled steel cleaning rod.
CONDITION: Excellent with 97% of the original
blued finish overall, showing just a hint of
edge wear. The various small parts retain 75% of their
original straw colors, mostly in the protected areas.
The grips are excellent with nice original checkering on
both sides, showing only minor wear across the tops of
the checkering mixed with some minor handling marks.
The board stock shows a couple of minor handling
marks on the sides and the attaching iron retains 95% of
its original blue finish. The holster is also excellent with
nice original color overall, tight stitching and clear sharp
markings. The black double magazine pouch is very fine
with nice tight stitching overall, showing minor scuffing on the edges and lower front with some minor age cracking on the flap. The leather shoulder straps and boot are all matching in color the holster and are very fine, showing light wear and age cracking on the face of the leather. This beautiful, original Artillery Luger rig has all matching numbers, including all three magazines and the original attaching iron on the stock. What a beautiful exceptionally high condition WWI Artillery Luger rig.
