Exceptional 1929 Swiss Bern Luger
Semi-Automatic Pistol with Holster - Serial no. P78038, 30 Luger Auto cal., 4 1/2 inch round
bbl., blue finish, checkered plastic grips. This is a beautiful example of a 1929 Swiss commercial contract Luger manufactured by Waffenfabrik factory in Bern, Switzerland. This specific pistol was
one of the very first manufactured in the second block of commercial serial numbers (P77942-P78258), and it still retains its original 7.65 mm Luger auto cartridge chamber. These commercial 1929 pistols
were intended for sale within Switzerland and have a very distinctive and different appearance in comparison to the standard P08 Lugers. They differ primarily in that they have a straight angular shape to the
frame, longer and wider grip safety, a flat almost cast or stamped thumb safety lever, flat non-checkered magazine release catch, with a turned or rebated front section of the barrel extension that matches the outside diameter of the barrel shoulder. They also lack the checking or knurling on the sides of the toggles, and they have the all blued finish. It is assumed these design
changes were strictly intended as manufacturing shortcuts as they function and perform exactly like the original P08 Luger design. The top of the chamber is unmarked and the front toggle has the “Swiss Cross in a Shield” marking. The barrel is correctly numbered on the side of the shoulder and has a small “Swiss Geneva Cross” acceptance proof on the underside with the full serial number on the
left side frame rail (and not on the front end) and again on top of the rear toggle. There is a small “K+/W” on the right side rail and a small “Swiss Geneva Cross” acceptance proof on the major components indicating acceptance at the Bern factory. The rear of the frame
and again on the sides of the plastic grip panels, has the circular proof of a “F + over W” proof. It is complete with a one original Swiss nickel plated magazines, marked with a single script “P” proof on the spine, and a brown leather holster with straps. The back of the holster in marked “O.PLUSS/ZOFINGEN/43”.
CONDITION: Excellent overall with 95% of the original matte blue finish with just some minor wear on the edges and high spots overall. The grips are also excellent. Mechanically excellent. The holster is fine with minor scuffs and edge wear.
