Exceptional Imperial German Officer’s Sword with Etched Blade Markings for the First Hanover Uhlanen Regiment - Measuring 39 inches overall, with a 34 inch straight single edged blade with etched decoration and niter blue panels on each side. The left side has a scene of two cavalry forces armed with swords and lances about to collide on the field of battle flanked by oak leaf motifs, and the right has “Konigs Ulan. Regt. (1. Hannov) No 13” surrounded by rose motifs. While they would later be incorporated into the unified Imperial German Army as the 13th Regiment under the X Army Corps, the unit started as the 1st Hanover as part of the King’s German Legion, a British unit formed under the authority of George III (both King of England and Elector of Hanover) and made up of Hanoverian soldier and officers who fled Hanover when it was occupied by Napoleon. During Britain’s fight against Napoleon, the Legion was engaged throughout Continental Europe, seeing action in the Peninsular War and the Battle of Waterloo, before eventually returning to a re-established Kingdom of Hanover. Fitted with a nickel finished hilt with Imperial Eagle motifs, a black celluloid grip, and a black enamel finished scabbard. CONDITION: Very fine. The excellent blade shows some light flaking and spotting, with good detail in the etching and strong niter blue, the hilt shows some bending in the guard and minor scratches on the grip, and the scabbard shows some scratches and flaking. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500 LOT 387 Eickhorn “Prinz Eugen” Pattern Officer’s Sword with Scabbard - 35 3/4 inches overall, with a 31 inch blade showing an “unarmed squirrel” logo on the left ricasso, gold-colored alloy hilt, dove head pommel with sculpted “reichsadler” design, and a wire wrapped black celluloid grip. Included with the lot is a black enamel scabbard. CONDITION: Fine. The very fine blade shows mild spotting, the sheath shows flaking and areas of brown patina, and the guard is broken at the pommel. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500 LOT 388 World War II German SMF Luftwaffe Aviator Sword and Dagger - 1) SMF Luftwaffe aviator sword, measuring 37 1/4 inches overall, 30 1/8 inch blade. aluminum hilt, blue leather wrapped grip and scabbard. 2) SMF Luftwaffe aviator dagger, 17 1/2 inches overall, 12 inch blade, darkened hit, blue leather grip and scabbard with integral chain hanger. CONDITION: 1) Fine overall, with mild spotting on the otherwise very fine blade, scuffing/wear on the leather, and handling marks overall. 2) Excellent overall, with mild scuffing and handling marks. Two World War II German Daggers, Including an Inscribed Presentation Grade SA Dagger and a Monogramed Army Dagger - 1) F.W. Hoeller Heer dagger, 14 1/2 inches overall, with a 9 3/4 inch blade, darkened furniture, “SW” monogram on the back of the guard, orange celluloid grip, and metal sheath with silver ribbon hanger. 2) Puma SA dagger with inscribed blade, 13 5/8 inches overall, 8 3/4 inch blade inscribed “Joh. Witzke/ Scharf. 1/R53” on the reverse, illegible region mark on the guard, fancy tiger stripe walnut grip with “eagle” and “SA” medallions, and a brown enamel finished scabbard with leather hanger and a repeat of the inscription on the back of the throat. Traces of gold wash are visible in the “Alles fur Deutschland” etching. Witzke has not been identified, though the markings imply he was some manner of marksman or sniper. CONDITION: 1) Excellent, with mild wear and handling marks. 2) Very fine, with some mild spotting and polishing marks on the otherwise excellent blade, a few scuffs and dents on the sheath, and mild handling overall.
