Documented Early Production Two Digit Serial Number 66 Winchester Model
21 Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no.
66, 12 cal., 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Likely manufactured in 1931, the first
year of production. Blued Winchester Proof Steel
barrels with a single bead sight on the matted concave solid rib, chokes marked “MOD”/”FULL”, and chambers marked 2 3/4 inches with a single extractor. The blued
action is unadorned and features a set of double triggers and a tang mounted automatic safety switch. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend and pistol grip stock with Winchester buttplate. This early gun is pictured on
page 562 of George Madis’“The Winchester Book” and is mentioned by serial number. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .731/.732 inches; choke constriction .010/.034 inches; minimum wall thickness .030/.033 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/2 inch drop at heel; 14 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 4 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 97% plus original blue finish with slight
oxidation on the lower tang and minor handling evidence on the balance. The wood is very fine with a few scratches and ding and sharp checkering.

LOT 556 Winchester Model 42 Slide Action Shotgun with Desirable Solid Rib Barrel - Serial no. 114158, 410 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1952. Single steel bead sight on the matted solid rib, standard markings, 3 inch chamber, and choke marked full. Winchester “WP” proofs on the barrel and receiver. Lightly figured, 14-groove forend and smooth pistol grip stock with Winchester plastic checkered buttplate. Stock measurements: 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/8 inch drop at heel; 14 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 3 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 85% original blue finish with light handling evidence, moderate slide retraction wear, and some scattered minor spotting. The wood is very good with numerous scattered light dings and scratches and varnish wear. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750
LOT 557
Highly Attractive Winchester Shotgun Shell Die Cut Advertising Sign - Dating to circa 1910, this is both a very interesting and exceptional piece of Winchester advertising history. Specifically advertising for Winchester shot shells, three different product line head stamps are shown: Leader, Repeater, and Nublack. The sign shows ten shells surrounding a spaniel about to flush a pair of quail under “WINCHESTER/SHOTGUN SHELLS/LOADED WITH/BLACK & SMOKELESS POWDERS./SOLD HERE”. The sign measures about 7x12 inches.
CONDITION: Excellent with bright colors and a few areas of wear, including one of the hanger holes and the right quails tail, otherwise, only minor storage type wear.
