Superb Antique Winchester Model 1885 Single Shot High Wall Rifle
in .32-40 WCF - Serial no. 72026, 32-40 cal., 30 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. This is an excellent Winchester Model 1885 High Wall plain sporting in popular .32-20 WCF cartridge that was manufactured
in 1895. The rifle has a standard 30 inch, full octagon, no. 3 weight
barrel which is marked with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and “32-40” at the breech It has the Winchester commercial blued finished barrel, color casehardened receiver, and low
luster wood varnish. The rifle is fitted with a blade front sight, an elevation adjustable rear sight, and folding tang peep sight featuring coarse knurled staff. The rifle is
fitted with a straight grip plain walnut stock and matching straight grain forearm. CONDITION: Excellent. The barrel retains 95% original blue finish with very slight pitting. The
receiver retains 95% plus vivid original case colors. The hammer, lever and buttplate 90% original case
colors. The wood is also excellent with some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A highly attractive

LOT 56 Very Fine Documented Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1885 High Wall Schuetzen Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 86916, 32-40 cal.,
30 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, deluxe walnut stock. The accompanying factory letter confirms the 30 inch no. 5 octagon barrel, .32-40 caliber, and Schuetzen set trigger when the rifle was received in the warehouse on October 26th, 1900 and shipped on October 29th, 1900, with the serial number applied on July 13th, 1900. The No. 5 bottom marked barrel is stamped on the top with the two-line Winchester New Haven address and “32-40”. Fitted with a globe front sight (no insert) and the top of the receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped for a peep sight (not included). The lower tang has the patent date marking and the serial number. The checkered forearm and pistol grip stock are deluxe walnut. The forend has two empty holes for affixing a palm rest (not included). The buttstock features a hard rubber Winchester grip cap, cheek piece and Helm buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is stamped with the assembly number “10388 U.S. XX”. The assembly number “10388” is repeated on the matching original buttstock under the buttplate. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 70% original blue finish overall with scattered light freckling and smooth brown patina on the balance. Wood is very fine with defined edges, a few light scratches, some areas of light crazing, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,500 - 7,000
LOT 57 Special Order Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Rifle in Scarce .25-35 W.C.F. - Serial no. 113822, 25-35 WCF cal., 30 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This is an excellent Winchester Model 1885 High Wall special order plain sporting rifle with the desirable double set triggers. This rifle was manufactured some time after 1915, however the specific date cannot be determined as the Winchester records don’t identify it. This rifle is fitted with a 30 inch full round, #3 heavy weight target barrel, that is chambered in the very desirable 25-35 WCF cartridge. This round was introduced in 1895 and was one of the first to have the new smokeless powder. The barrel has the standard two-line factory markings of “MANUFACTURED BY THE/WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.” followed by “NICKEL STEEL BARREL/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER” both offset to the side of the barrel, with the “25-35 WCF” caliber markings in front of the receiver ring. The Winchester circled “WP” firing proofs are directly on top of the receiver and barrel. The barrel has the standard steel blade front sight with the Winchester buckhorn sporting rear sight with the fine-tune, adjustable elevation insert. It has been fitted with the special order double set triggers, the Winchester pattern double set trigger loading lever, and a straight grip walnut stock and matching
straight grain walnut forend with the small Winchester ebony insert in the tip. The buttstock is fitted with a crescent buttplate. It has a blued metal finish, color casehardened loading lever, and low luster factory varnish. CONDITION: Very fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish overall, edge and high spot wear, spotting and thinning on the top rear end of the barrel (typically where it is held) and around the rear sight, and blue loss on the lower edges of the receiver. The loading lever retains 80% subdued case colors showing light fading overall. The buttstock and forend are both very fine with 90% plus of the factory varnish overall showing minor, light handling marks and scratches on the sides of both the buttstock and forend. The wood to metal fit is excellent. Mechanically excellent. A very nice looking, all original, Winchester Model 1885 high wall sporting rifle in a very desirable 25-35 WCF caliber.
