Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Takedown Lever Action
Rifle - Serial no. 420696, 30 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl.,
blue finish, walnut stock. As “the ultimate lever gun” for over a
century, the Winchester Model 1894 rifle holds a special place in the hearts
of collectors. These working guns were not often ordered with special, extra cost
features, making deluxe takedown variations highly sought after by collectors, especially those in high condition
like this example. This Model 1894 was manufactured in 1908. The barrel is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight and an
express three position rear sight graduated to 200 yards. The top barrel flat has the two-line legend, and the upper left flat has the nickel steel marking and “30 WCF.”
Import marked on underside of barrel. A Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line model/trade mark information, and
the underside of the receiver has the serial number. The “X” select walnut forearm and pistol grip stock feature Winchester “H” style checkering. The buttstock has a hard rubber Winchester grip cap and a crescent buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is marked “5871 X.” The assembly number “5871” is repeated on the stock under the buttplate and on the buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 85% original blue finish with a few scattered patches of dark light pitting on top of receiver and barrel. 50% original nitre blue on the loading gate. 40% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The buttplate retains patterns of original case colors with some pitting. The wood is also very fine with some minor-moderate dings, some scratches, most of the original varnish remaining, and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. An attractive deluxe Winchester Model 1894 takedown rifle.
