Documented Special Order Winchester Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle with Scarce Extra Length 32 Inch Barrel and Factory Letter - Serial no. 51236, 40-60 WCF cal., 32 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1885 as a Third Model with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrations at the rear. The top flat of the barrel is marked with the two-line address/King’s patent markings and caliber marking at the breech. The model designation is marked on the upper tang and the serial number is on the lower tang. The special order, extra length, 32 inch barrel is fitted with German silver blade front and folding ladder rear sights. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate which contains an included five-piece cleaning rod. The included factory letter lists the rifle in .40-60 caliber with a 24 inch octagon barrel and plain trigger when received at the warehouse on 17 December 1885, the letter then states “Returned in Russell December 22, 1886 - Octagon barrel, 32 inches, plain trigger”, and shipment from the warehouse on 23
December 1886 to order number 13718. It appears this is an example of Winchester using standard warehouse stock to fulfill special orders. CONDITION: Good, showing mostly a smooth brown patina, some areas along the barrel a brighter grey patina, and some scattered patches of light pitting. The upper tang screw is broken in half but both pieces are present. The wood is also good with minor dings and scratches scattered throughout and a stabilized crack in the right of the forearm. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000

Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Extra Lightweight Takedown Lever Action Short Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 160125, 30 WCF cal., 22 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The accompanying factory letter confirms the extra lightweight takedown configuration with a 22 inch round barrel (caliber not listed), plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, Lyman front and rear sights, half magazine, and hard rubber shotgun buttplate. The letter also states the rifle was received in the warehouse on April 17, 1903 and shipped the next day. Twenty-two inch barrels on Model 1894s are a very scarce special order feature even on the lightweight examples. The half magazine, deluxe walnut, and shotgun buttplate are also special order features. As Winchester expert and author George Madis noted, “Winchester with a number of special and deluxe features are becoming impossible to find” (see “The Winchester Book,” page 409). The Lyman sights feature a beaded blade front and an elevation adjustable rear. The barrel is marked with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight, “30 WCF” at the breech, and the two-line nickel steel marking on the left side. The upper tang has the three-line model/patent marking. The serial number is stamped on the underside of the frame. As noted in the factory letter the forearm and pistol grip stock are checkered deluxe XXX walnut. The checkering is of the factory H-style. The stock has a Winchester hard rubber grip cap and shotgun buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is stamped “16370 XXX B.” The assembly number “16370” is repeated on the stock inlet. CONDITION: Very good. The barrel and magazine tub retain 70% original blue finish, 80% original blue remains on the bolt, and the frame, takedown collar and forend cap retain 30% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina. Traces of original nitre blue remain on the loading gate. Traces of original case colors remain on the lever. The refinished wood is fine with limited handling marks and crudely recut checkering. There are a couple of stress cracks at the buttplate screws. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500

Antique Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle in Desirable .45-90 W.C.F. with Factory Letter - Serial no. 58585, 45-90 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue/ casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1891 with the desirable early casehardened receiver found only on Model 1886 rifles manufactured prior to 1902. Standard two-line address and “45-90 W.C.F.” on the top barrel flat, model designation on the upper tang, and two- line patent marking and serial number on the lower tang. Fitted with dovetailed German silver blade front and elevation adjustable
buckhorn rear sights. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The included factory letter confirms the octagon barrel in .45-90 caliber and plain trigger. The letter also states the rifle was received in the warehouse on July 18, 1891 and shipped on July 24. CONDITION: Very good, retains strong traces of the original blue finish, mainly in sheltered areas with the balance having thinned to a grey-brown patina and traces of original case colors in sheltered areas with the balance a mottled silvery-grey patina. The wood is also very good and has some minor dings, dents, and scratches scattered throughout and a hairline crack in the forearm. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500
Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle with Tang Sight - Serial no. 210348B, 38-40 WCF cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This third model 1873 rifle was manufactured 1886. The rifle has Beach combination front, elevation adjustable rear (missing elevator) and Vernier tang sights. The top of the barrel has the two-line address/patent dates ahead of the rear sight and “38 CAL” at the breech. The cartridge elevator is marked “38 CAL.” Mounted with a smooth straight grip stock fitted with a crescent buttplate with compartment (cleaning rod not included). CONDITION: Fine. The rifle retains 30% plus original blue finish with the balance a mottled brown-gray patina. 40% of the bright original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The wood is also fine with some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,250
