Cased Engraved and Gold Inlaid Pair of F. Weiland of Cassel Percussion Target Pistols -A) Weiland Percussion Target Pistol - NSN, 40 cal., 10 3/8 inch octagon bbl., brown/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Friedrich Weiland (1828-1861) of Cassel, Hesse, Germany was active in the mid-19th century. The rifled barrels have dovetailed blade front sights, “F. WEILAND IN CASSEL” in gold inlay, and “GUSSSTAHL” at the breech ends.
“0” is on the bottom of the barrel and breech plug of “A,” and “1” is in the same locations on “B” as well as on the inside of the forend. The locks
are signed “F. WEILAND/IN CASSEL” and have rotating hammer stalls. The locks and furniture have scroll engraving. The standing breeches have adjustable notch rear sights, and the pistols are fired with adjustable
double set triggers. The wedge escutcheons are silver. The stocks have Schnabel forend tips and checkered panels on the wrists. They come in an attractive burlwood veneer case with a loading rod, cleaning rod, powder flask, nipple wrench, screwdriver, conical bullet mold, powder measure, cap container, and key.
CONDITION: Very good with the original brown finish mostly fading to smooth patina on the barrel, minor pitting, mostly gray patina on the furniture, crisp engraving, distinct markings, and minor wear mostly from age and storage. The stock is fine and has crisp checkering, a few dings and scratches, and nearly all of the glossy finish. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are fine and have mild age and storage related wear including some chipping at the edges and a crack in the bottom of the case. B) Weiland Percussion Target Pistol - NSN, 40 cal., 10 3/8 inch octagon bbl., brown/casehardened finish, walnut stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Very good with fading original brown finish and gray and brown patina on the barrel, mostly silver-gray patina on the lock and furniture, crisp engraving, some faint pitting, and generally minor overall wear. The stock is fine and has crisp checkering, a few minor dings and scratches, and glossy finish. Mechanically excellent.

Cased Pair of P. Claudin Retailer Marked Engraved Rifled Percussion Pistols -A) Percussion Pistol - NSN, 52 cal., 7 inch octagon bbl., bright/ casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured c. 1840-1860. The etched Damascus barrels have fixed blade front sights. The locks are marked “FNI
P CLAUDIN A PARIS,” and the locks and furniture have scroll engraving. The stocks have fluted wrists. There are compartments in the pommel caps. The case contains loading and cleaning rods, a mallet, powder flask, container, ball mold, ball puller, screwdriver/nipple wrench, and a key.
CONDITION: Very good with gray patina, crisp Damascus patterns and engraving, some small spots of minor oxidation/pitting, and general mild overall wear mainly from age. The stock is fine and has some light dings and scratches. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories are fine with mild
age and storage related wear. B) Percussion Pistol - NSN, 52 cal., 7 inch octagon bbl., bright/casehardened finish, walnut stock. See A.
CONDITION: Very good with gray patina, crisp Damascus patterns and engraving, isolated minor oxidation/pitting, and mild overall wear. The stock is fine and has light scratches and dings. Mechanically excellent.
