Engraved and Carved Pair of Poncet Flintlock Pistols -A) Poncet Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 28 bore/.54 cal., 9 1/4 inch
round bbl., bright/gold finish, walnut stock. These classic mid-18th century European pistols have smoothbore barrels with
brass blade front sights, ribs on the upper left and right on the breech sections, “PONCET” signed in a banner on the locks along
with some floral scroll engraving, non-bridled pans, re-plated gilt brass furniture including accents plates around the barrel tangs, mostly floral scroll and classical martial trophy patterns on the furniture, and some coordinating raised relief carving on the stocks as well as horn forend tips. “Der Neue Stockel” lists a Poncet active around 1739-1740 and indicates they may have been from Pontarlier in Doubs in eastern France. CONDITION: Very good with the European tradition bright polished lock and barrel exhibiting some faint spots of pitting, bright re-plated gilt finish on the furniture, light softening of the carving on the refinished stock, some faint cracks and repairs, and generally minor overall wear.

CONDITION: Very good with the European tradition mostly bright polished lock and barrel, some mild pitting, mix of bright and aged patina on the furniture, distinct designs, mostly crisp carving in the refinished stock with some minor softening, some discoloration on the wrist, and some light overall wear. Mechanically fine.
