Fine Antique Engraved Cox & Son 8 Bore Single Barrel Rotary-Underlever Hammer Duck Shotgun - NSN, 8 Bore gauge, 38 1/2 inch part octagon bbl., brown/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Featuring a tapering round browned Damascus barrel signed “COX & SON 7 BERNARD ST. SOUTHAMPTON” and with brass front sight post and engraved with a sunburst towards the breech. John Cox moved his business to 7 Bernard Street in Southampton in 1854. Following his death, the business was continued by his widow Mary Ann, and, in time, she was

joined by their son. According to Nigel Brown in “British Gunmakers, Volume Two – Birmingham, Scotland & the Regions” on p. 199, the barrel signature of
Cox & Son dates this gun to circa 1886-1890. Birmingham black powder proof marks and London nitro reproof marks for 1987. Border and scroll engraved action with carved percussion
fence and rebounding back action lock signed “COX & SON”. Figured 14 1/4 inch straight hand stock with iron heel plate, the grip and forearm checkered. The forearm with large green horn cap, the butt with blank gold oval initial escutcheon on the underside. Weight 14 lbs. 1 oz.
CONDITION: Fine. The barrel retains 95% re-browned finish with clear engraved signature and decoration. Action and lock have a grey discolored patina with clear engraving. The water table and inner surface for the forearm iron each with
faded original casehardened finish. Stock has been re-oiled and has some scattered age related storage and handling blemishes. The right edge of the forearm wood has an insert repair. Mechanically fine. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection. Estimate: 1,500 - 2,500

Antique Factory Engraved Joseph Lang & Sons 10 Bore Rotary Underlever Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun - Serial no. 3871, 10 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured circa 1869/70 per the chart on page 123 of Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers Volume One: London”. Browned Damascus steel barrels with a single bead sight on the smooth solid rib which is signed “J. LANG & SONS. 22. COCKSPUR STt. LONDON.”, correct period proofs, and chambers measured 2 7/8 inches with single extractor. The casehardened
non-rebounding hammer rotary lever action displays light fine scroll engraving which extends to the small parts. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered wedge
fastened splinter forend with engraved fittings and straight grip stock blank inscription oval and checkered bare butt. Stock measurements: 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/8 inch drop at heel; 14
9/16 inch length of pull; weight 8 lbs. 9 oz. CONDITION: Very good overall, with a mix of grey and brown patination on the on the barrels, traces of case colors in the protected areas, light handling evidence, two cracks on the forend around the right wedge housing, and crisp checkering on the wood. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,500 - 2,500
LOT 1552 Engraved W&C Scott & Son Double Barrel Hammer Shotgun - Serial no. 4249, 12 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., brown/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured before 1897. With a single brass bead sight on the solid, smooth concave rib marked “W&C. SCOTT & SON. PATENTEES. LONDON”. With 2 3/4 inch chambers and chokes both gauging at improved cylinder. This classic British hammer gun features a top lever operating a Purdey bolt by way of a Scott spindle. The casehardened frame features tight highly detailed English style floral scroll
engraving with large sunbursts at the main hinge and each lockplate marked “W&C SCOTT & SON”. The trigger guard and lower tang are similarly engraved
and marked with the serial number. With standard late 1800s British proofs on the underside of the barrels and both the Scott and Purdey patent markings on the water table. Mounted on a checkered walnut splinter forearm and straight grip stock with a smooth engraved steel buttplate. Length of pull is 14 inches.
CONDITION: Fine with traces of original brown finish on the barrels with strong Damascus patterning. With some small dings at the muzzle and edges of the flats. The barrel legend and engravings are crisp. The action has some vibrant case colors in the more protected areas with the balance aged to a mostly silver/gray patina with clear markings and detailed engravings. The wood is fine with scattered indentations and scratches and some bruised checkering in the forearm. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 1,400 - 2,250

Fine Antique Scottish Engraved D. & J. Fraser 10 Bore Double Barrel Rotary-Underlever Hammer Shotgun - Serial no. 611, 10 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., brown/ casehardened finish, walnut stock. This is an early example of a gun from the famous Scottish gunmaker Daniel Fraser. According to Nigel Brown in “British Gunmakers, Volume Two – Birmingham, Scotland & the Regions” on p. 90, the D. & J. Fraser signature and Leith Street Terrace address dates this gun to circa 1878-1888. With browned Damascus barrels with concave rib between signed “D. & J. FRASER. 4 LEITH ST. TERRACE, EDINBURGH” and with a bead front sight. Birmingham “Not For Ball” black
powder proof marks and nitro reproof marks. Border and scroll engraved action with carved percussion fences and rebounding back action locks each signed “D. & J. FRASER”.
Figured 14 1/4 inch straight hand stock with heel and toe plates, the grip and forearm checkered. The forearm with lever fastener, the butt with silver oval initial escutcheon engraved with a
monogram on the underside. Weight 7 lbs. 14.5 oz. CONDITION: Fine. The barrels retain 98% rebrowned finish. The rib signature is softened. The action and locks are mostly bright with clear engraving, slight traces of original casehardened
finish visible in sheltered areas, stronger but faded casehardened finish to the water table, and strong casehardened finish to the inside of the forearm iron. The stock has age softened checkering and scattered storage and handling marks, bruising and blemishes throughout. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
