Outstanding True Pair of Mythical Themed Ferruccio Iora Master Engraved Ivo Fabbri Sidelock Over/Under Shotguns -A) Ivo Fabbri Sidelock Shotgun - Serial no. E488, 12 gauge, 27 inch vent rib bbl., blue/grey finish, walnut stock. Guns manufactured by Ivo Fabbri are among the best in the world, and this pair is no exception. Fabbri guns are built on a custom order basis only and have a waitlist of up to six years from the time of ordering. Blued barrels with a single steel bead sight on the matted vent rib which is marked
at the base with a gold inlaid “1”, gold inlaid barrel markings which read “-IVO FABBRI - BRESCIA -/MADE IN ITALY” and “BOHLER SUPER BLITZ STEEL” on the left and right respectively, 1973 dated Italian proof marks, 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors, and light floral scroll engraving running around the upper breech. The greyed sidelock action displays absolutely fantastic deep cut floral scroll engraving surrounding mythical designs including a winged lion exhaling the scrollwork on either lockplate and a pair of bare breasted fae folk on the underside all over a beautifully contrasting darkened background. The engraving extends to the trigger guard, toplever which is marked with
a gold inlaid “1”, and both tangs, the bottom of which is marked with the
serial number inlaid in gold. The gun features gas checked firing pins, double triggers, and a tang mounted safety switch with gold inlaid “SAFE”. The
trigger plate is signed “F. IORA INC” for Italian Master Engraver Ferruccio Iora. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered forend with matching engraved fittings, gold “1” on the tip, gold Majestic emblem on the underside, and a pair of golden grouse. The pistol grip stock is of equal quality and inlaid gold initials and a leather covered recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at 18.5mm (.728 inches) and both measured .730 inches; choke constriction .017/.021 inches; minimum wall thickness .025/.026 inches; 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 2 1/8 inch drop at heel; 14 3/4 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 3 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 99% original blue and grey finishes with
minor handling evidence. The wood is very fine with a few scattered dings and scratches, varnish loss at the left of the buttstock, some missing gold in the inlaid initials, slight wear to the recoil pad at the toe, and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
