By 1864 large numbers of
Henry rifles were carried
by Federal regiments in the
Western theater. Historians
believe the majority of the approximately 8500 Henry rifles
manufactured before April 1865 saw Civil War service.
CONDITION: Fine. The barrel/magazine has an attractive silver-gray patina with 30% of the bright original blue finish mostly contained in the protected areas. The surfaces of the barrel/magazine are crisp with sharp edges and show only very minimal age discoloration. The serial number and New Haven Arms Company legend are crisp. The brass receiver is very fine with tight side-plate joints, minimal handling marks and a very attractive, un-touched age patina. The buttplate is in the same, very fine, condition. The hammer, trigger, loading lever, sling swivel and sling loop have an attractive, silver-gray patina. The stock is very fine overall with scattered light handling marks and retains 85% of the original varnish finish. This is a desirable example of an extremely early production, brass frame, Henry rifle with distinctive, early production, features. Estimate: 45,000 - 70,000
