Attractive Michael B. Suchka Hotchkiss Revolving “Cannon” in .50 BMG with Carriage -
Serial no. 0003, 50 BMG , 29 1/2 inch round bbl., blue/bright finish. Michael B. Suchka of Valley
Engraving, Inc. and Thunder Valley Machine Co. has produced a number of very high quality small
scale and full sized replicas of Hotchkiss and Gatling crank guns. This early Hotchkiss cannon is
marked on the top of the action with “HOTCHKISS PARIS” on a belt as part of the engraved cross
cannon Hotchkiss logo over “BLACK POWDER ONLY/S/N 0003 J.F.R./CALIBER .50 B.M.G. B.P.” and the
left side of the action has “MICHAEL B SUCHKA CLARINGTON OH U.S.A. S/N 000 KAL.” (appears to be an
error in that it does not have a “3” in the number). The outside of the rear cover has “HOTCHKISS REVOLVING
CANNON” in a circle around “.50” and is marked “HOTCHKISS/SN. 0003JFR/PARIS.FRANCE” on the inside.
Chambering for black powder loaded .50 BMG cartridges prevents this item from being classified as a destructive device, and allows for use with ammunition that is available. The sights are on the right side and are graduated out to 600 yards. It is fitted on an oak carriage with black painted iron fittings. The carriage measures approximately 75” overall length, 65” wide, 42 3/4” tall.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 85% original blue finish on the barrels and feeding mechanism with scattered light surface corrosion, and the brass exhibits a slightly darkened golden patina. Does not mechanically function in its current state, appears to be missing a key for the crank handle. Carriage is very fine.
Estimate: 18,000 - 27,500
