Gorgeous Pair of Silver Mounted European Flintlock Holster
Pistols with Relief Carved Stocks
-A) Flintlock Holster Pistol - NSN, 60 cal., 13 1/4 inch round bbl., bright/
silver finish, walnut stock. These c. mid 18th century pistols from Continental Europe
 have silver furniture, including elaborate pierced side plates with scrolling designs and masks and wrist escutcheons with coronets and bestial supporters. The pommels have quatrefoil floral designs and lion masks and “B” and “A” hallmarks. The barrels also have silver front sights on long sighting ribs and silver inlaid
ovals engraved with a classical soldier design. The locks similarly have beautiful relief engraved designs of classical figures seated amongst martial trophies. The stocks have relief carved scroll patterns and horn forend caps.
CONDITION: Fine with silver-gray patina on the lock and barrel, some light pitting, deep natural aged patina on the silver furniture, and mild overall wear. The stock is also fine and has distinct carving, mild edge wear, a couple of faint cracks by the toe, and light scratches, and dings. Mechanically fine.
B) Flintlock Holster Pistol - NSN, 60 cal., 13 1/4 inch round bbl., bright/silver finish, walnut stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Fine with silver-gray patina and slight pitting on the lock and barrel, attractive natural aged patina on the silver, some faint repairs, and mild wear. The stock is very good as restored with discreet repaired cracks and slivers, distinct carving, and scattered light dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.

 LOT 3264 Northern European Wheellock Holster Pistol - NSN, 54 cal., 18 1/2 inch octagon bbl., bright finish, hardwood stock. Similar pistols have been identified as German or Dutch from c. 1620-1650 and were used in the English Civil War and wouldn’t have been out of place in settlements such as Jamestown. This one has no visible markings. There is an “XXII” marking on the bottom right of the octagonal barrel under the lock. The lock is of flat beveled type with an exposed wheel. The stock is of fruitwood or walnut and has iron furniture. CONDITION: Fine with silver-gray patina, some faint pitting, minor damage on the forend cap, and general minor overall wear. The stock is also fine and has mild scratches and dings, a few faint cracks, and some tiny flakes. Lock not tested. Estimate: 3,500 - 5,500
