Ornate Pair of Ottoman Flintlock Holster Pistols with Gilt Stock Decoration
-A) Ottoman Holster Pistol - NSN, 65 cal., 13 inch round bbl., bright/gold finish, metal/hardwood stock. Some of the most elaborately ornamented flintlock pistols were manufactured in or for the Ottoman Empire in the 18th and 19th centuries. This ornate pair of pistols from the early 19th century is certainly a fine example of that and have a higher quality of workmanship than is often seen. They feature alloy “tombac” mounts with gilded finish covering the stocks along with silver wire wrapped wrists, velvet covered barrel tangs, blade front sights on the banding around the muzzle sections, interrupted sighting ribs on the barrels with brass inlays in between, scroll and floral engraving on the barrels and locks, serrated frizzens, and false ramrods.
CONDITION: Fine with most of the bright gilt finish remaining throughout, attractive aged patina on the silver wire, gray and brown patina on the lock and barrel, some minor pitting, crisp engraving, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.
