Fine Engraved and Silver Inlaid Early Dutch Flintlock Pistol by Jan Van Den Sande of Zutphen - NSN, 50 cal., 18
3/8 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. This Dutch pistol likely dates circa 1650 during the period where New Amsterdam was under Dutch control in what is now Lower Manhattan. The bridle-less rounded lock of this pistol is signed “Jandensande/A Zutphen” and has an interesting stamp on the inside. Zutphen is a city in the central Netherlands. The long slender smoothbore, three-stage barrel has some light engraving on the ribbed breech
section. The tang and pommel cap have light scroll and floral engraving. The lock has a mask
design on the cock screw and some file work. The scrolling sideplate design masks and floral
blooms. The stock has relief carving around the entry point and inlaid silver wire scroll and dot

Very Rare Scarce Engraved Dutch Three-Barrel Flintlock Holster Pistol - NSN, 48 cal., 12 5/8 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock.
   design on the top of the wrist.
CONDITION: Fine with mostly gray patina, some mild pitting, patches of brown patina, and general mild overall wear. The re-oiled stock is also fine and has distinct carving, aged patina on the inlays, and minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
Estimate: 5,000 - 8,000
   Dating to the third quarter of the 17th century, the back action lock has an angel, scroll, and bestial mask design engraved over “MASTRECH” (Maastricht). The other components have scroll patterns. The hand rotated tapering barrels are smoothbore. A ramrod rides between two of the barrels. A small trigger at the front of the trigger guard releases the barrels. The vent hole is large enough that the pistol should self-prime between shots if it is tilted to the side. The consignor informs us that this pistol was purchased from the Henk Visser collection!
CONDITION: Fine with the metal polished and exhibiting mostly silver-gray patina, distinct engraving, mild pitting, crack in the ramrod ferrule, and general moderate overall
wear. The stock is also fine and has some small flakes at the edges, distinct molding, light dings and scratches, and some attractive figure. Mechanically fine. 182 Estimate: 5,000 - 8,000
