LOT 3296 British India Pattern Brown Bess Flintlock Musket - NSN, 75 cal., 39 3/8 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Manufactured c. 1790s-early 1800s. The smoothbore barrel has a bayonet lug/ front sight, Ordnance proofs and “SG” on the left at the breech, and an “L-H 383” Irish registration mark for County Louth in north eastern Leinster, Ireland. LOT 3292 Attractive and Desirable Victorian Era Seaforth Highlanders 1828 Highland Pattern Officer’s Basket Hilted Broadsword - Manufactured c. 1880s, during the height of the Victorian era and the power of the British Empire. This sword is etched for an officer of the Seaforth Highlanders, which were formed in 1881 by combining the 72nd (Duke of Albany’s Own Highlanders) Regiment of Foot and the 78th (Highlanders) (Ross-shire Buffs) Regiment of Foot. It was manufactured by S.J. Pillin of London, identified by the proved slug on the right ricasso. The double edged blade measures 32 1/2 inches long and 1 3/16 inches wide at the ricassos. The spine is deeply stamped “100115”. The blade is extensively etched on both sides, the right having the name and motto of the regiment, battles they participated in, and a “VR” cypher, while the left has floral patterns, a further “VR” cypher, and the royal coat of arms. The guard is of the typical “advanced” 1828 Highland Pattern pierced with mostly hearts and the pommel is a fluted dome. The grip is wire wrapped shagreen. CONDITION: Fine, showing mostly a grey patina on the iron with some scattered light pitting throughout and most of the etching legible. The grip has some mild wear and slightly loose wire wrap. A very attractive sword with Scottish highland martial history! Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500

Desirable North British Basket Hilted Cavalry Backsword with Scabbard - Likely manufactured in the early to mid-1700s, this sword follows the typical pattern of basket hilted swords that were issued to some British cavalry regiments of the period. The blade measures 38 1/4 inches with one full edge and approximately half of the spine forming a false edge. There is one wide fuller running nearly the full length and a shorter narrower fuller just under the spine. It measures approximately 45 1/4 inches overall. It has a typical “Glasgow hilt”, the basket pierced with hearts and a fluted bun style pommel with a visibly peened tang. The grip is wire wrapped ray skin and there is a partial leather/felt basket liner present. The scabbard is blackened leather with iron fittings. CONDITION: Very good, the iron showing mostly a bright grey patina with some scattered light pitting and some mild evidence of cleaning/sharpening on the blade. The scabbard is fine with some mild flaking and wear. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,250

Robert Mole 1857 Highland Pattern Infantry Drummer’s/Sergeant’s Basket Hilt Broadsword Unit Marked for the 78th Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs) - Manufactured in the mid-late 1800s, these swords were originally issued as the “1857 Pattern Highland Regiments Drummer’s Broadsword”. In 1871 they were reissued with the terminology for the them changed to “Sword, Staff Sergeants, Highland Militia and Volunteers”. This exampled is unit marked “B/78/3” on the guard indicating issuance to the 78th Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs), which were active in that form from 1793 to 1881. The double edged (unsharpened) blade measures 29 1/2 inches with a narrow and short fuller on each side. The right ricasso is marked “crown/B/13” and the left has the maker’s mark “MOLE” along with “6.” The basket guard is of the typical 1857 Pattern pierced with hearts and a fluted domed pommel. The grip is wire wrapped shagreen. CONDITION: Fine, the blade showing mostly a bright grey patina with some light nicks in the cutting edge and a few scattered patches of light pitting. The hilt shows a grey patina with some light pitting scattered throughout and some mild wear on the grip. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750 LOT 3295 Scarce Wogdon Flintlock Coach Carbine - NSN, 16
gauge, 15 1/2 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. This carbine from c. 1770 has a smoothbore barrel with Tower proofs flanking Robert Wogdon’s “RW” maker’s
mark on the left. The lock is signed “Wogdon” and has a sliding safety mechanism at the center. The furniture is brass and is fairly martial in styling. Robert Wogdon is most famous for his dueling pistols, and long guns from his shop are scarce. CONDITION: Good with gray patina and mild pitting on the lock and barrel, aged patina on the brass furniture, and mild overall wear. The refinished stock is good has some repairs by the lock and moderate dings and scratches. The safety mechanism is incomplete, and the
early “swan neck” cock, and “IN” and a “crown/5” on the inside. The furniture is brass. “N/A+4L” is marked on the buttplate tang. A modern buff leather sling is equipped. CONDITION: Good with mottled gray and brown patina and moderate pitting on the lock and barrel, file marks on the replacement cock, attractive aged patina on the brass, and general moderate overall wear. The refinished stock is also good with a repair on the left side of the forend, general mild scratches and dings, and what appears to be burn damage on the right side of the butt. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,250
