Finely Engraved and Gold Banded W. Parker Saw-Handled Flintlock
Pistol with Scarce Detachable Buttstock - NSN, 57 cal., 9 1/4 inch octagon bbl., brown/ casehardened/blue finish, walnut stock. William Parker was active from 1793 to 1841, and his
shop was taken over by his former partner’s son and then son-in-law and run as Parker, Field & Sons until 1877. Parker had a royal warrant and manufactured and sold guns and other items to England’s police forces. The rifled Damascus barrel has a
band of engraving at the muzzle, a dovetailed silver blade front sight, “W. PARKER, GUN MAKER TO HIS MAJESTY, HOLBORN, LONDON.” inscribed on top, and dual engraved bands near the breech. The patent breech is gold banded, platinum lined, and has a gold “W. PARKER” hallmark. The upper tang has dual gold bands and a fixed
notch sight and is engraved with scroll and martial patterns. The advanced lock is signed “W. PARKER” and has burst, floral, and scroll engraving and a hole in the plate and pan. Martial
and floral pattern engraving is also found on the trigger guard and ramrod entry pipe. The saw-handle stock has a horn forend cap, silver wedge plates, a silver escutcheon on the left side, a gold “1”
inlaid behind the upper tang, checkered wrist, floral engraved band around the butt, and an engraved key slot in the back of the wrist for fitting the included skeleton buttstock which has engraved iron hardware and a checkered bare butt.
CONDITION: Very good overall with an even dark period refinished brown and visible twist patterns along the barrel, mostly dark
brown patina on the other iron components, bright original gold
bands, light oxidation, aged patina on the silver, loose band on
the reoiled stock, mind dings and scratches, and crisp markings,
engraving, and checkering. Mechanically fine.

Pair of Constable, Philadelphia Marked Saw-Ha -A) Constable Dueling Pistols - NSN, 58 cal., 9 1/4 Constable was an English trained gunmaker active i
  PA. The barrels on these dueling pistols have no visible proofs. They have “PHILADA” on top, an unclear Masonic rule and compass style marking on the left flats, and “A” has an “I” mark on the lower left flat. The locks are signed “CONSTABLE” and have
semi-waterproof pans, frizzen spring rollers, stepped tailed, sliding safeties, and scroll and burst
engraving. The pistols
also feature brass blade
front sights on the barrels, fixed notch rear sights on the standing breeches, adjustable single set triggers
and spurred trigger guards with pineapple finials and classical English style engraving. The forend caps, wedge escutcheons, oval escutcheons on the left stock flats, and scroll engraved pommel inlays are silver. The half-length stocks have the distinctive saw-handle style and have checkered wrists.
CONDITION: Very good as reconverted to flintlock configuration with mostly artificial gray and light brown patina on the barrel and lock, aged
patina on the silver, most of the refinished blue on the other furniture, some mild oxidation and pitting, and general mild overall wear. The stock is fine and has crisp
checkering with minor wear, light scratches and dings, a crack at the lock screw, and another faint crack at the nose of the lock. The lock will not hold unless the trigger is set first, and the safety is not working; otherwise, mechanically fine.
B) Constable Dueling Pistol - NSN, 58 cal., 9 1/4 inch octagon bbl., brown/casehardened/silver finish,
walnut stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Very good as reconverted to flintlock configuration with mostly light artificial brown and gray patina on the lock and barrel, aged patina on the silver, refinished blue/case colors on the other furniture, some mild oxidation and pitting, and general mild overall wear. The stock is also very good and has a repair visible by the nose of the lock, crisp checkering with a few divots and spots of wear, a thin tension crack at the lock screw on the left, and mild dings and scratches throughout. Mechanically needs work.
