Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Lever Action Takedown Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial
no. 64404, 30
WCF cal., 24 inch part octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock.
Manufactured in 1902, this is an attractive special order Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 rifle. The special order, 24 inch, part octagon barrel is marked with the standard two-line Winchester address and caliber
marking on the top flat. The upper tang has the standard three-line model, trademark, and patent information, and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. The left side of the lower tang is marked “3995XXXSOFRB” which
appears to have punch dots over it, and “4845 XXX R” is marked on the left of the upper tang. “4845 T 94” is marked in the stock inlet.
These dual assembly number markings may indicate that the configuration of the rifle was changed before it left the factory. It is fitted with
a Lyman beaded blade front sight, Lyman two-leaf rear sight that has been hand filed with a notch in the rear leaf, and a Lyman tang mounted peep sight. It is
also fitted with factory double set triggers. It is mounted with a very finely figured, H-pattern checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber grip cap and
checkered buttplate. The included factory letter lists the rifle in .30 caliber with a 24 inch half octagon barrel, set trigger, half magazine, takedown, Lyman front and rear sights, and a checkered pistol grip stock with a hard rubber shotgun buttplate when received at the warehouse on 11 July 1902 and shipped the next day. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 75% plus of the original blue finish, 60% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate, and 60% of the vibrant original case colors with the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina. The wood is fine with some scattered minor handling marks, a light chip on the left near the buttplate, crisp checkering, and retaining most of the varnish. Mechanically excellent. An attractively configured special order Winchester deluxe Model 1894 rifle!

Very Fine Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action .44-40 Rifle - Serial no. 60233, 44 WCF cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish,
walnut stock. Manufactured in 1880 as a second model with the dust cover guide rail retained with two screws and dust cover with the serrations at
the rear. The rifle is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The rifle correctly lacks a caliber designation. The top of the barrel has the two-line Winchester legend ahead of the rear sight. The upper tang is marked
“MODEL 1873.” The lower tang has the serial number. The rifle has a special order half magazine. The forearm and straight grip stock are plain walnut.
The buttstock is fitted with a trapdoor crescent buttplate. The butt compartment holds a four piece cleaning rod. The Model 1873 was a “working man’s”
gun that saw hard use among the pioneers headed westward in search of new fortunes. These Second Model 1873s are becoming difficult to find, especially those in well above average condition like this example. CONDITION: Very fine. The barrel and forend cap retain 85% plus original blue finish and the receiver retains 80% bright original high polish blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance and surface oxidation visible on most of the upper receiver tang. 40% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. 70% of original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is also very fine with some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A highly attractive Winchester Second Model 1873 Rifle. Estimate: 5,000 - 7,500
