Special Order Winchester
Model 1886 Extra Lightweight Takedown Lever Action .45-70 Short Rifle with
Scarce Plain Pistol Grip Stock - Serial no. 136597, 45-70 cal., 22 inch round bbl., blue
finish, pistol grip walnut stock. Based on a John Browning patent, the Model 1886 was
one of the strongest lever actions ever used in a Winchester rifle, with this example chambered in
highly desirable 45-70 caliber and in scarce special order lightweight takedown rifle configuration. As Winchester expert and
author George Madis noted, “While [Model 1886 lightweight 45-70 rifles] were offered over a period of years, comparatively few were produced and it is a scarce gun” (“The Winchester Book,” page 249). It was manufactured in 1905. The short barrel is stamped with the two-

Winchester Model 92 Lever Action .25-20 WCF Rifle - Serial no. 914080, 25-20 WCF cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock.
This is a very fine Winchester Model 92 Rifle in desirable .25-20 WCF caliber as manufactured in 1922. The barrel is fitted with dovetailed blade and elevation
    line New Haven address ahead of the rear sight, “45-70” at the breech, and “NICKEL STEEL” on the left side under the rear sight. The rifle is fitted with
a dovetail blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The upper tang has the three-line model/trade mark information. The lower tang has the patent dates marking and the serial number. The rifle features a special order plain walnut pistol grip stock which is fitted with a hard rubber Winchester grip
cap and shotgun buttplate. The straight grain walnut pistol grip stock is an unusual and scarce special order feature as this type of stock is generally encountered in select grade walnut. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retaining 80% original blue finish on the receiver with the underside of the receiver taking on a smooth gray patina. The barrel retains 50% of the thin faded blue with chemical spots visible overall. The loading gate retains 40% original nitre blue. 40% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is fine with minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.

integral dust cover rail and dust cover with grip serrations at the rear. The standard two-line address and King’s patent marking is on the top barrel flat along with the caliber marking at the breech. The bottom of the cartridge elevator is marked “38 CAL.” The upper tang is marked with the model
designation and the serial number is on the lower tang. It is fitted with a beaded blade front sight and elevation adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight, and is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a
trapdoor crescent buttplate. Includes a four-piece cleaning rod inside the stock.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% plus of the original blue finish, 40% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate, and 30% of the original case colors with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina. The wood is fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches, and retaining most of the varnish. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000

on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line model/trade mark information. Mounted on a plain walnut forearm and straight grip stock.
The stock is fitted with a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Extremely fine, retaining 85% original blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The frame shows a couple of areas that have been heavily scratched. There is a scratch visible at the upper tang; otherwise, the wood is excellent with some very scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
