Attractive Relief Carved Antique Ivory Scottish
Terrier Cane - Starting in the 16th century, canes and walking sticks became extremely popular, first among royalty and nobility, and by the 19th and 20th centuries having worked
their way down to the middle classes as a symbol of status. This cane appears to be an ideal piece for a gentleman to show of
his status while also honoring a canine friend. The knob-shaped antique ivory handle is expertly relief carved in the form of a
bust of a Scottish terrier with glass eyes. There is a silver band where the handle meets the smooth ebonized hardwood shaft that is engraved with the initials “RK”. The shaft is tipped with contrasting light colored horn. The overall length is 36 1/4 inches. CONDITION: Very fine, the antique ivory showing an attractive lightly aged appearance overall, attractive aged patina on the silver, and a few scattered minor chips in the ebonized
finish of the shaft.

Attractive Relief Carved Antique Ivory Tiger Head Cane - Starting in the 16th century, canes and walking sticks became extremely popular, first among royalty and nobility, and by the 19th and 20th centuries having worked their way down to the middle classes as a symbol of status. Canes were particularly popular among gentlemen throughout the British Empire, with this example presenting strong association to India given
its theme. The slightly “L” shaped, antique ivory handle
is masterfully relief carved in the shape of a snarling tigers head, with enamel painted stripes and eyes of yellow glass. The handle is joined to the shaft with an extra large, ornately detailed, “STERLING” marked silver band engraved with a “CJMD” monogram. The varnished hardwood shaft is smooth and tipped with dark horn. CONDITION: Very fine, the antique ivory showing an attractive slightly aged appearance and some mild fading of the enamel stripes, silver showing an attractive antique patina, some scattered light handling marks on the shaft, and some light wear on the horn tip. Attractive Relief Carved Antique Ivory House Cat Cane -
Beginning in approximately the 16th century, canes gradually became more popular among the upper echelons of society, reaching its pinnacle around the late-19th to early-20th centuries. They became far more than just an accessory to assist with mobility, and more of a symbol of ones status and wealth. This piece is a great example of that, likely having been made for someone wealthy to honor a beloved pet. The grip has been masterfully relief carved in the form of a house cat’s head wearing a bow and is fitted with blue glass eyes. The whiskers, nose, and eyes have been accented with black enamel. The grip is joined to the shaft by a gutta percha like band and the shaft appears to be walnut tipped with German silver. It measures 36 inches overall.
CONDITION: Very fine, the grip shows an attractively aged patina overall with some light wear and retaining most of the black enamel. The shaft is also very fine with some scattered light handling marks and dings.
