   LOT 356
Frankford Arsenal/Palmetto/SGW XM16 Rifle in “AM15” Configuration, Class III/ NFA Fully Transferable Machine Gun, with Accessories - Serial no. 6352F.A., 22 LR cal., 10 inch ribbed bbl., black finish, synthetic stock. Originally manufactured by Palmetto Armory as a BH.15A1 semi-automatic rifle using a Schuetzen Gun Works receiver, this rifle was upgraded to a full automatic XM-16 rifle by Frankford Arsenal of Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Later still, it was converted from a conventional “M16” style closed bolt selective fire rifle to an open bolt 22 LR submachine gun with the addition of an AM15 upper receiver and replacement of some internal parts, effectively turning it into a modernized copy of the American 180 SMG. Folding post front and adjustable peep rear sights, with a triple forearm rail arrangement around the fluted and threaded barrel, with a Magpul RVG front grip. The safety markings retain the original “S” and “F” positions, with “ROCK N’/ROLL” marked on the full auto position; with the AM15 upgrade, “S” is safe, “F” is full automatic, and “ROCK N’/ROLL” is cosmetic. A Lone Star Ordnance pistol grip is installed on the frame, with a six-position telescoping plastic buttplate. Included with the lot are 22 AR-15/M16 pattern magazines, an A4 profile AR-15 upper with bolt and “5.56” marked barrel, and an ammo can. No AM15/American 180 magazines are included. CONDITION: Excellent, with 90% plus original black phosphate/anodized finish, showing light scuffs and scratches overall. The furniture is in equal condition. Internal parts to restore AR-15 style operation are not included. The magazine catch and rear takedown pin are absent, otherwise mechanically fine. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478. Estimate: 11,000 - 16,000
LOT 357
American Arms International American 180 M2 Submachine Gun, Class III/NFA Fully Transferable Machine Gun, with Accessories - Serial no. D01089, 22 LR cal., 17 1/2 inch fluted bbl., blue/black anodized finish, walnut stock. With aesthetic and mechanical parallels to both the U.S. Thompson submachine gun and weapons like the Lewis Gun, the American 180 M2 uses a top mounted spring loaded “platter” magazine to feed an open bolt selective fire mechanism, with aluminum receiver construction and fine hardwood furniture. Capable of a 1200 RPM cyclic rate, the low recoil of the 22LR cartridge makes for a weapon that’s far easier to control (and far easier to feed, cost wise) than many automatic weapons. The 180 was evaluated by the U.S. Army for use in close combat; while unsuitable for general infantry use, within “knife fighting range” the 180’s extreme precision would allow multiple rounds to bore through a single point of armor or structure, giving a penetrating power beyond what one would expect from the humble Long Rifle cartridge. Blade front and adjustable peep rear sights, with a set of protective wings and cooling fins on the barrel, threaded muzzle, non-reciprocating charging handle, and a fine hardwood forearm, pistol grip and detachable buttstock. Included with the lot is a canvas soft case, two extra magazines (one standard, one extended plastic), one extra magazine spring unit, 9 inch barrel with A1 style flash hider and pistol grip forearm, extra short forearm, and assorted parts. Some of the parts are for weapons other than the American 180. CONDITION: Very fine, with 90% of the blue and anodized black finish, showing mild edge wear, cycling wear, and handling marks. The wood is very fine, with mild scuffs, dents and flakes. As currently configured, the baseplate of the extra steel magazine is not compatible with the weapon; a set of replacement baseplates was supplied but not installed. Mechanically excellent.
