Colt M16A2 Automatic Rifle, Class III/NFA Fully Transferable Machine Gun - Serial no. 8002883, 5.56 mm cal., 20 inch round bbl., matte black phosphate finish, synthetic stock. Developed in the early 1980s, the M16A2’s parameters were mostly driven by requests made by the United States Marine Corps. These requests included alterations to the stock and forearm, integration of an adjustable rear sight, closing off the bottom of the birdcage pattern flash hider, and swapping out the full auto fire mode for a three round burst mode. These were the signature weapon of the U.S. armed forces through the end of the Cold War and up to the War on Terror. This particular example is in “M16A3” configuration; it is “M16 A2” marked with “SAFE”/”SEMI”/”BURST” selector markings, but the internals configured for semi-automatic and full-automatic operation. While not documented, this variant is associated with the U.S. Navy, particularly the SEALs and Construction Battalions. Adjustable post front and fully adjustable two-leaf peep rear sights, with the A2 flash hider on a “C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7” marked HBAR profile 1:7 twist barrel with a bayonet lug and round handguard. “C/M” is cast into the carry handle, with a round button style forward assist and casing deflector integrated into the upper. Fitted with a checkered pistol grip, fixed buttstock, and a black nylon sling. The bolt carrier is marked “C” and the bolt head “MPC”, both matte finished.
CONDITION: Excellent, with 98% plus original matte black phosphate finish, showing some light rubbing on the barrel, wear on the carry handle consistent with scope installation (scope not included), and mild handling marks overall. Red in-fill
has been applied to the markings, with silver highlights on the front sight and safety lever and blue on the rear sight. The furniture is also excellent, with mild scratches concentrated on the buttstock. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon
is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
