Ultra Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1885 High Wall Takedown Schuetzen Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 109442, 32-40 cal.,
30 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The factory letter confirms the rifle was originally received in the warehouse on June 3, 1910, and shipped on
June 13 in .32-40 with a #4 weight 30 inch octagon barrel with matted (textured) upper flat, windgauge front and Vernier peep sights, no rear sight dovetail, Schuetzen set trigger (double set trigger), palm rest, finger spur lever, and checkered pistol grip stock with Schuetzen cheek piece and Helm buttplate. No
mention is made of the rare takedown feature which is obviously an oversight as it is undoubtedly factory! The factory letter outlines TEN special order features
of this spectacularly rare configured Winchester High Wall! The rifle retains these features and also has the standard factory markings (off-set on the upper left flat). Note the Schnabel tip forearm’s checkering is spaced around the palm rest. The buttstock has attractive feathered figure and an embossed hard rubber pistol grip cap. The butt and underside of the buttplate are numbered “8042.”
CONDITION: Very fine with 85% original blue with some areas of gray and brown patina (especially the buttplate), light pitting on the frame, and strong original case colors in the protected areas and a mix of fading original colors and patina on the balance. There is some light edge wear throughout and scattered minor marks and scratches. The wood is also very fine and has smooth original finish, some small chips, and minor scratches and dings. Mechanically needs work; the hammer will lock up at full cock. Factory documented special order Winchester Model 1885 Schuetzen rifles are always desirable and are very interesting Model 1885 variations. Provenance: The Larry Jones Collection; Property of a Gentleman.
