     LOT 67 Remington-Hepburn No. 3 Single Shot “B” Quality Match Rifle - Serial no. 7978, 38-50 cal., 32 1/8 inch part octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, deluxe checkered walnut schuetzen stock. Remington-Hepburn rifles were manufactured c. 1883-1907, with approximately less than 1,000 Match rifles made. This “B” quality match rifle features a part octagon barrel equipped with a windage adjustable globe front sight with spirit level, tang mounted adjustable peep ladder rear sight, and mounted with a checkered walnut forearm with nickel plated brass forend cap, round knob checkered
pistol grip on the nicely figured buttstock with large cheekrest, and nickel plated brass Schuetzen type buttplate. “REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION , N.Y.” marked on the top barrel flat, with the caliber designation “38.50” (.38-50 Remington) marked on the bottom of the barrel ahead of the forearm. “HEPBURNS PAT./OCT. 7TH 1879.”
marked on the left of the frame. Matching serial number “7978” marked on the underside of the barrel, rear surface of the forearm, lower tang, front surface of the buttstock and underside of the buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 85% original blue finish on the barrel with some streaked, once chemically cleaned areas lightly thinning to a brown, 85% vivid original case colors, 90% original niter blue finish on the small parts, a few patches of minor freckling,
and sharp markings and edges in the metal overall. Wood is excellent with attractive grains, a few scuffs visible, some light handling marks, defined edges and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. This attractive Remington-Hepburn No. 3 “B” quality match rifle would make a fine addition any early American firearms collection! Estimate: 5,500 - 8,500

Exceptional E. Remington & Sons No. 1 Rolling Block Long Range “Creedmoor”
Target Single Shot Sporting Rifle - Serial no. 4685, 44-77 cal., 34 1/4 inch part octagon
bbl., blue/casehardened finish, deluxe checkered walnut stock. Reportedly, a few hundred
of the original Long Range “Creedmoor” Rifles were manufactured by Remington c. 1873-1890. These were among the finest target rifles of the 19th century and certainly among the
finest 19th century arms manufactured by the Remington factory. The part octagon barrel is marked with the E. Remington & Sons address on top and has a windage adjustable globe front
sight with a spirit level (level included separately, does not properly stay in place), “44 S” marked on the bottom
of the barrel ahead of the forend (.44-77 Sharps). The frame has the patent markings on the left and a long range Vernier peep sight on the upper tang. Matching serial number “4685” marked on the bottom of the barrel beneath the forend, rear flat of the forend, on the lower tang, front flat of the buttstock and underside of the buttplate. Additional mounting base for the peep sight located on the top rear of the buttstock. The forearm is smooth and has a steel end cap, and the pistol grip stock has a checkered wrist, horn inlay, some nice figure, and a smooth steel shotgun buttplate.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retains 97% original blue finish on the barrel with light wear spots at the muzzle, 80% plus niter blue finish on the small parts, 60% muted original case
colors, with some scattered light freckling, and distinct markings and edges in the metal overall. Wood is excellent with attractive grains, a few light handling marks, some dents on top of the stock comb from the folding tang sight, defined edges and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. This exceptional Remington No. 1 Long Range “Creedmoor” Rolling Block rifle would make a fine addition to any early American firearms collection!
