Engraved Gold Plated E. Remington & Sons Elliot’s Patent Four-Shot .32 RF Derringer with Pearl Grips and Presentation Case - Serial no. 22401, 32 RF cal., 3 3/8 inch fluted bbl., gold finish, pearl grips. An estimated 25,000 of these derringers were manufactured c.1867-1888 split between .22 RF and .32 RF like this example. The Remington-Elliot was an improved version of the “Zig-Zag” pepperbox using a fixed barrel group with a rotating hammer assembly and double action ring trigger, setting the distinctive pattern for Remington’s later pocket pistols. It has the matching serial number on the bottom of the action and barrel, a blade front sight, single
line address on the left of the barrel group and single line patent marking on the right, and smooth pearl grips. Includes a fitted hardwood case with an empty cartridge block.
CONDITION: Fine, retains traces of the original gold finish in sheltered areas with the balance having thinned to mostly an attractively aged silver, a few scattered patches of light pitting, and crisp engraving overall. The grips are also fine with a few minor chips and light handling marks. The trigger mechanism appears jammed. The case is very fine with some scattered light handling/storage marks.

Exceptional Remington Over/ Under Derringer - Serial no. 624, 41 RF cal., 3 inch solid bbl., blue finish, hard rubber grips. Known as the Model No. 3 and Type II, this Remington over/under derringer was introduced in 1888 and production lasted until 1911. The top of the barrel rib has the standard Model No. 3 address marking: “REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y.” The derringer has fixed sights, a spur trigger, a manual extractor, checkered bird head grips and blue finish. The Remington over/under derringer remained on the market for 69 years, a testament to the pistol’s popularity and practicality. CONDITION: Very fine. The derringer retains 80% bright original blue finish with the balance thinned to a smooth brown patina. The grips are also excellent with overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. An exceptional iconic example of one of the best known American derringers! Provenance: The Joe Marlin Hilliard Collection. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000

Scarce Factory Engraved Nickel and Gold Remington Smoot New Model No. 1 Revolver with Pearl Grips - Serial no. 1940, 30 RF cal., 2 13/16 inch solid rib bbl., nickel/gold finish, pearl grips. This model was only manufactured briefly in the mid-1870s and limited to about 3,000 revolvers. This example has the standard barrel marking and has attractive scroll engraving, gold wash on the cylinder and hammer, and smooth pearl grips. CONDITION: Very fine. The barrel and frame retain 90% original nickel plating. The hammer and cylinder retain 70% period replated gold plating. There are a few patches of pitting. The engraving is crisp overall. The grips are excellent with a couple tiny chips on the right panel and attractive fiery colors. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500

LOT 1260 Factory Engraved Remington Rider Magazine Pistol - NSN, 32 XSRF cal., 3 inch octagon bbl., nickel finish, rosewood grips. Manufactured in 1871-1888, the Remington-Rider is one of the few pistol designs to use a tubular magazine, which front-loads in the style of the Volcanic or Henry rifle. The barrel has the one-line Remington address/Rider patent legend. The frame features scallop borders and flourishes of scrollwork on a punch dot background which extend to the back strap. CONDITION: Extremely fine retaining 95% “frosted” original nickel plating with some scattered flaking. The engraving is crisp. The grips are fine with minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
