Unique Four-Shot Belt Buckle Pistol - Serial no. 89, 22 cal., 1 5/8 inch bbl., blue finish. Subject to much speculation as to origin, this custom made “SS Belt Buckle Pistol” was reportedly intended to be a last-ditch weapon for an SS man caught off guard by an opponent; the wearer would make as though they were removing their belt to surrender their holstered sidearm, only to instantly deploy a concealed pistol. The heart of the weapon is a spring loaded barrel assembly that doubles as the cocking lever for a set of four independent strikers, with no provision for extraction of the spent rounds; either the ambush works and the operator has ample
time to acquire a rod to drive out the casings, or it doesn’t work, and it isn’t their problem anymore. Full metal construction overall, with a nickel plated brass SS-pattern “reichsadler” badge on the hinged cover, which tips up to reveal the mechanism, a set of catch latches on the bottom and right side, a set of hinged belt hardware on the sides, and German-style markings on the rear along with the serial number.
CONDITION: Very fine as custom made, with 75% of the thinning blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, mild spotting and light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 8,500 - 13,000
  LOT 1312
Wartime Deluxe Factory Engraved Walther PPK Semi-
Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 408148K, 7.65 mm cal., 3 1/4
inch round bbl., in the white finish, black checkered plastic
grips. This is a late production factory engraved Walther PPK semi-automatic pistol. The pistol has been embellished with deep relief chiseled floral and geometric engraved pattern over most of the
surfaces. The serial number is engraved on the right side of the slide and frame, and there are no proof marks, which further substantiates
the originality of this example (as it truly was never completed). The engraving is not the typical oak leaf and acorn pattern normally seen
on engraved party pistols. It is however very similar to several of the various special order engraved Walters shown in “Walther Volume II,
Engraved, Presentation and Standard Walther Pistols” by Rankin. The engraving covers the flat sides of the slide with the upper radius on the
right side, the front grip strap and the sides of the exposed frame area. The engraving on the front grip strap and on both sides of the exposed
areas directly behind the trigger is a very nice delicate floral pattern. The engraving on the very front frame extension and upper side areas
above the trigger guard bow and on the rear of the frame have a nice geometric pattern. The pistol was probably pulled directly from the
production line and sent to one of the engravers employed by the Walther factory. The metal surfaces were then polished, engraved and have
remained completely in the white. The left side of the slide is marked with the two-line Walther factory marking. 60 degree safety, Walther marked magazine and fitted with the late production one-piece black checkered plastic grips with the reinforced metal strap on the back sides.
CONDITION: Very fine, “in the white” condition. There is some extremely minor pitting present on the edges of the frame. The markings are clear and distinct, and the engraving is also sharp and detailed. The grips are also very fine. Mechanically excellent. Overall this is an exceptionally nice World War II factory engraved Walther pistol.
Provenance: The Joe Marlin Hilliard Collection.
Estimate: 5,500 - 8,500
