Very Attractive and Highly Desirable 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396/325 HP Coupe Convertible - Manufactured in 1967, the final year of the first generation of the Chevrolet Chevelle. With tastes in the American car market shifting in the early 1960s and growing competition in the “compact” sector, Chevrolet knew they needed something fresh to continue to compete. The Chevrolet Corvair and Chevy II/Nova were losing ground to the Ford Falcon as well as other compact cars like the AMC Rambler American.
In 1962, Ford opened a new front in the war between American automakers, releasing their Fairlane which was dubbed a mid-size car, filling the gap between their full-size and compact cars. Chevrolet answered in 1964 with the Chevelle, which was originally conceived as an up-sizing of their Chevy II with a uni-body platform.
