Very Fine Engraved H. Scherping Single Shot Boxlock Rifle with Extra Length Barrel - Serial no. 857, 38 cal., 42 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Heinrich R. Scherping of Hannover was active starting in 1857 until his death in 1913. He was a royal gunmaker and also a retailer. The business continued until around World War
II. The barrel has an adjustable semi-globe front sight, fluted fore section, matted top flat in the breech section, flared section on the upper flat fitted with an adjustable notch sight, “H. SCHERPING HOF=BUCHENMACHER” on the upper right, and “HANNOVER” on the upper left. The bottom of the barrel is marked with “857,” “K,” crowned proofs including a “crown/R” (proof after a repair/alteration) and “91/83.” The casehardened boxlock action has “H. SCHERPING” on the right, “HANNOVER” on the
left, fine scroll and floral engraving, a folding base for a peep sight on the upper tang behind the top lever, Greener safety on the left with gold “SAFE” marking, adjustable double set
 triggers, and a spurred trigger guard. The long, Schnabel tip forearm has a coordinating engraved lever and checkering with lined borders, and the nicely figured buttstock has a checkered pistol
grip with horn cap, prominent cheek rests on each side, and a casehardened single hook buttplate with light engraving. CONDITION: Very fine with 85% original blue finish, 75% plus original case colors, crisp engraving and markings, patches of brown patina and minor oxidation, some light marks and scratches, and general minor
wear. The wood is also very fine and has attractive figure, mild wear on the otherwise crisp checkering, and light scratches and dings. Mechanically fine. This is a very attractive German rifle. Estimate: 5,000 - 8,000

Attractive Relief Game Scene Engraved J. Nowotny Back Action Hammer Double Rifle with Royal Monogram on the Trigger Guard - Serial no. 5139, 43 Mauser
cal., 26 7/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrels with a beaded blade front sight with a flip-up moon bead and adjustable sliding rear sight on the smooth solid rib which is marked “J. Nowotny k.k. priv Hof = Waffenfabrik in Prag” in fancy script, floral engraving at the breech, and 1891 proof for guns built
before the proof law. The casehardened hammer back action displays extensive deep relief Germanic scroll and game scenes with roe deer,
red deer, hounds, and boars. The trigger guard bears a royal coronet over the initials “GA”. The rifle features rebounding hammers, dual single set triggers,
   and a tang mounted flip-up peep sight. Nicely figured, checkered forend with horn underlever and engraved fittings and stock with horn pistol grip, raised cheekpiece, and steel trapdoor buttplate with serial number. Length of pull 13 3/4 inches. Weight 7 lbs. 4 oz. CONDITION: Very good, retaining 40% original blue finish, attractive silver patina on the receiver and locks, some discoloration around the fences, and moderate handling evidence. The
revarnished wood is also very good with numerous dings and scratches, some insect damage in the horn, and faded smooth checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,500 - 5,000
LOT 3315 Very Fine German Zimmerstutzen Single Shot Target Rifle - NSN, 4 mm cal., 26 inch
octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Features a ramp mounted globe front sight, peep
rear sight, no visible markings, double set triggers, and Schuetzen style stock with scroll carving bordering the checkering,
thumb rest, and single hook buttplate. CONDITION: Very fine with 85% plus original blue and casehardened finish, minor edge wear, and some minor marks and scratches.
The wood is fine and has some scattered dents and scratches, “E22” in white on the bottom of the forearm along with a repair, nice figure, and crisp checkering. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 1,400 - 2,250

Desirable W.W. Greener “Queen’s Cup Winner” Martini Target Rifle -
Serial no. 023338, 22 cal., 26 1/2 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The rifle features a globe front sight and the elevation and windage adjustable “Greener’s Patent Orthoptic” peep sight design patented by Harry Green on May 8, 1902, (marked “PAT No 10555” on the right and “W.W. GREENER/BIRMINGHAM” on the left). The military style notch and ladder rear sight from the barrel is absent. The barrel has : W.W. GREENER MAKER BIRMINGHAM,”“AMMUNITION/.22,” the serial number, and Birmingham proofs. The frame has “W.W. GREENER MAKER. BIRMINGHAM.” on the left and “QUEENS CUP WINNER” in an engraved ribbon and an image of the Queen’s Cup on the right. It has a military style forend with two barrel bands and a straight wrist stock with textured steel buttplate. This rifle was advertised as “W.W. Green’s ‘Queen’s Cup Winner’ Rifle. It was with a rifle of this type that Mr. A. G. Banks won the Queen’s Cup - The Blue Riband of the Miniature Rifle World.” R.G. Banks of Lancashire won the Queen’s Cup in 1907 with a score of 355 out of 400. Greener built these rifles up using MkII Martini-Henry military actions dating from the 1880s. CONDITION: Good as refinished with 50% blue remaining, white highlighting in the markings, and generally mild overall wear. The wood is very good has some light scratches and dings. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,000 - 1,500
