Pre-World War I Imperial German DWM Model 1906 Altered First Issue Navy Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol Rig with Danzig Naval Dockyard Marking, Board Shoulder Stock, Leather Holster and Double Magazine Pouch - Serial no. 6331, 9 mm Luger cal., 6 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. One of approximately 8,000 manufactured, these were the standard pre-World War I Navy Luger issued to the Imperial German Navy all the way through World War I and even into the Weimar era.
This first issue Navy 1906 Luger has the desirable 6 inch Navy barrel, two-position 100-200 meter Navy rear sight, and grip safety. The majority of these first issue Navy Lugers had their safety markings modified as seen on this example, with “GESICHERT” added in the top position from its original location in the lower position (still visible but faint). The top of the chamber area is undated, and the standard “DWM” logo is marked on the front toggle. The underside of the barrel is marked with a “(crown)/M” acceptance proof and crown firing proof on the left. The barrel extension has a crown firing proof followed by double “(crown)/M” acceptance proof marks. Crown proof mark also located on the breech block. Standard military style serial number placement with “6331” marked on the underside of the barrel and front of the frame. Various small parts have matching last two digits of the serial number including the barrel extension and grip panels. “W.D./182.” unit marking on the rear grip strap, indicating issue through Werft Danzig, an Imperial Navy shipyard and a major nerve center for Imperial German Naval operations. The pistol is fitted with
a correct pre-war Navy type magazine with nickel plated body and walnut base with concentric circles and “W.D. 193.” marked on
the bottom. Includes a board shoulder stock with “7954/a” marked on the iron attaching area and “(crown)/M” navy mark on the
walnut stock and iron disc, a black leather holster and suspension rig, black leather double magazine pouch and combination tool. CONDITION: Fine, retains 80% arsenal refurbished blue finish with scattered patches of light pitting (under the finish). 50% straw colors visible on the small parts. Grips are very fine with a few small nicks in the diamond panels and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Included board stock is fine with refinished blue finish visible on the attaching iron, and some light handling marks and scratches in the
wood with defined edges. Holster, suspension rig and double magazine pouch are fine with some areas of light age related cracking. Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000

DWM Model 1920 Commercial Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol in
“Luger Carbine” Style Configuration, with Case and Accessories -
Serial no. 9444m, 9 mm cal., 16 1/4 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut
stock, checkered walnut grips. Manufactured in Germany and imported
to the U.S., this Luger is equipped with an extra-long barrel. The origin of
the barrel is unknown, but Weimar-period American merchants offered
the Luger in a variety of barrel options, including Artillery, Carbine, and
other configurations. The use of a 16 1/4 inch barrel creates a weapon
that can be used as a handgun without the stock, or as a rifle with the
stock without creating a Short Barreled Rifle (per U.S. vs Thompson/
Center). Blade front and artillery tangent rear sights, “GERMANY” on the
left side of sight base, a sling swivel, and faint internal diameter marking
on the underside. Crown/N proofs are present on the chamber and
breech, straw finished small parts, “GERMANY” on the right side rail, and
bright finished magazine with “GERMANY” marked hardwood base. The
stock has a checkered straight wrist, unmarked mounting iron, sling swivel, and plastic buttplate. Includes a black leatherette case, leather sling and a box of Winchester ammunition.
CONDITION: Very fine, with 95% of the period refurbished blue, showing areas of gray patina on the barrel, bright edge wear, and mild handling marks overall. 85% plus straw color is present on the small parts. The grips are very fine, with a few verdigris spots and dings on the otherwise sharp checkering, with the buttstock in similar condition. The case is very good with handle leather heavily flaking off. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 3,000 - 5,000
LOT 3342
DWM Model 1920 Commercial Luger Semi-Automatic
Pistol Carbine - Serial no. 127, 9 mm cal., 12 inch round bbl., blue finish,
walnut grips. Manufactured in Germany in the 1920s and imported to the U.S., this Luger Carbine has a
shoulder stock and an extra-long barrel; a number of period commercial firms would offer Lugers with longer than
standard barrels. Has features of the 1902 Luger Carbine as well as the Artillery Luger, with a ramp blade front sight
and tangent rear sight. Commercial “crown/N” proofs on multiple parts, “GERMANY” on left side rail and barrel underside, “DWM” on front toggle link, “GESICHERT” and “GELADEN” on upper safety position and extractor, and “127” on the frame and tangent rear sight and “54” serial numbers on the other components. A mounting iron (sans accelerator assembly) is mounted on the frame ahead of the trigger guard, checkered Schnabel tip forearm, wood magazine base (unmarked
except for a “flaming bomb” style proof ), and a hardwood buttstock with checkered wrist, checkered horn
buttplate, and unmarked mounting iron.
CONDITION: Very fine, with 85% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown patina, bright edge
wear, scattered spotting, and mild handling marks. The furniture is fine, with some cracking of the forearm
and grip panels, a loose chip in the left panel near the safety, and some chipping and filler in the otherwise
very fine stock near the iron, with all parts showing good checkering. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 3,500 - 5,500
