Documented Royal
Portuguese Army
Contract “M2” Crest DWM
Model 1906 Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with Portuguese Holster
- Serial no. 28, 7.65 mm Luger Auto
cal., 4 3/4 inch round bbl., blue
finish, walnut grips. Manufactured
during the final days of the
Portuguese monarchy, between 1908
(the ascension of King Manuel II) and
1910 (the deposition of Manuel II and
the establishment of the Republic of
Portugal). These were made specifically
for the Royal Portuguese Army. There
were approximately 5,000 made in total
under this contract with this model being
easily identified as the chamber area is
marked with the royal Portuguese crown
above an “M2” royal cipher. The Royal
cipher is the early pattern used on Lugers
below serial number 3000, and this Luger
is pictured and identified on page 521 of
Gortz and Sturgess’“Pistole Parabellum”
(Vol. II). Fixed sights, circled triangle army
acceptance marks on the barrel, barrel extension and frame, and “DWM” marked front toggle link. The extractor is marked “CARREGADA”, and the lower safety marking is polished blank. Fitted with straw finished small parts, checkered walnut grips and a nickel magazine with the circled triangle army acceptance mark on the walnut base. Matching visible serial numbers on various components including the inside of both grip panels, with an unnumbered magazine. Included with the lot is a Portuguese military pattern black leather cowhide flap holster with army arsenal stamp “A.E” (Arsenal de Ejercito) on the rear next to handwritten “3a/2o”, and containing a pin punch.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 70% original blue finish with smooth brown
patina on the grip straps, and sharp markings and edges in the metal overall.
50% original straw colors remain on the small parts. Grips are fine with some
light handling marks and defined checkering. Mechanically excellent. Included holster is fine with light edge wear. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,250

Extremely Scarce Portuguese
Contract Mauser Banner Model 1906/34 Luger Pistol with
Matching Numbered Magazine
and Holster - Serial no. 4321V, 9 mm Luger cal., 4 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. This is an extremely scarce
all original Portuguese contract Mauser Banner Luger pistol. This specific Luger
is one of approximately 50 Luger pistols ordered in June 1937 that fall into the 4301v-4350v serial number range. These were some of the last Lugers to be ordered and delivered to an outside country by
the Mauser factory prior to World War II,
when all sales of military type weapons
were suspended based on the need to
equip the German Army. These rare Lugers
generally fall into the Commercial Banner
serial number range, however they have
several unique features that identify them as
a Portuguese contract pistol. This model is a
continuation of the early 1906/34 contract
Lugers, delivered in 1935, in that it still has
the early style “1906” frame, with the coil spring, mainspring, 1906 style grip safety with no stock lug and a hold open latch. It is correctly marked “SEGURANCA” and “CARREGADA” respectively on the safety area and extractor, noted only on Portuguese contract Lugers, and it falls directly into the Portuguese contract serial number range noted above. It has the standard commercial model “Mauser Banner” logo on the toggle with a blank chamber area and fixed sights with military style serial number placement. All visible serial numbered components are matching including the nickel plated magazine with matching number “4321v” marked on the aluminum base, with unnumbered checkered walnut grips. It is correctly proofed with the small “Crown/U” firing proof on the left side of the barrel extension and breech block. Includes an unmarked reproduction Portuguese military pattern leather holster containing a combination tool and cleaning rod.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 85% original blue finish with extensive dings and scattered very light pitting, with sharp markings and edges in the metal overall. 75% original straw colors remain on small parts. Grips are very fine with some light handling marks mostly concentrated on the left panel, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A desirable early Portuguese military contract Luger that is seldom encountered on the U.S. collectors market today.
Estimate: 3,500 - 4,750

Rare Third Contract Portuguese
Navy “41” Date Mauser Banner Luger Semi-Automatic
Pistol with Matching Numbered Magazine - Serial no.
6958W, 9 mm Luger cal., 4 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips.
This pistol was part of a final contract for the Portuguese Navy
of which there are believed to have been approximately 50 or less
delivered in the 6916w-6980w serial number range (reference pg. 416 of “The Mauser
Parabellum 1930-1946” by Don R. Hallock and Joop van de Kant). These pistols saw
extensive service until the 1970s with Portugal. This commercial Luger has a “41” dated
chamber, the Mauser Banner logo on the toggle, and the proper commercial “eagle/N”
proofs on the left of the receiver, left of the breech block, and on the front sight block. All the visible numbered components are matching including the aluminum base of the blue finished magazine, with unnumbered checkered walnut grip panels. This pistol has standard fixed sights with “SEGURANCA” marked safety area and “CARREGADA” marked extractor.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% arsenal refurbished blue finish with scattered nicks and scratches, smooth brown and gray patina on the balance, and sharp markings in the metal overall. 40% straw colors visible on small parts. Grips are also
fine with some scratches and handling
marks in the otherwise clear cut checkering.
Mechanically excellent. This rare example of
a Third Contract Portuguese Navy “41” date
Mauser Banner Luger pistol would make a
fine addition to any Luger collection!
Estimate: 2,750 - 4,250
