FBI/XM9 Features, Box, and
Factory Letter - Serial no.
A881673, 9 mm para cal., 4 inch
round bbl., matte blue finish,
polymer grips. Manufactured
in the fall of 1984, this pistol
is one of only 803 Model 459 pistols produced in a limited run by S&W. The key features of these limited edition pistols are the dull, anti-glare finish which was used on the U.S. XM9 test trials pistols, as well as the dull finished high impact nylon
grips which are the same as those fitted to the Model 459 pistols manufactured for government agencies, including the FBI. The included factory letter confirms these features and states that they were part of a small trial run evaluating these features for the standard production, fixed sight version of the Model 459 which never
came to fruition. The letter goes on to state that this pistol was part of a 50 gun shipment to SER Distributors Inc. in Miami, Florida on 22 February 1985. Includes an unnumbered S&W factory box, extra magazine, and cleaning rod/tools.
