Mateba MTR-8 Double Action Target
Revolver - Serial no. 000411, 38 Special cal., 11
3/4 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips.
The MTR design was Emilio Ghisoni’s first revolver design,
predating his better known Mateba semi-automatic revolver. Unlike a standard revolver,
this model features a lowered bore axis by moving the cylinder to directly in front of the trigger guard, this also
allows for a larger, higher capacity cylinder because the size of the cylinder is not restricted by the shooter’s grip,
it also directs recoil forces more in line with the shooters arm. The revolver also uses a unique loading method
using clamshell style disk to hold the individual rounds which are then inserted into the rear of the cylinder. The revolver will not fire without the loading disk in place. This example is fitted with an adjustable high visibility post front and notch rear sights, standard maker’s marks on the right side of the frame, and serial number marking on the left, importer marking on the barrel, smooth trigger, external lever for advancing the cylinder, and textured walnut forend and target style grip. The revolver appears to have once been outfitted as the MTRC-8 carbine; however, the buttstock has been removed and is not included. It is estimated only about 500 of these models were produced.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 97% original blue finish with some light handling marks, light oxidation on the cylinder shield, and a cylinder drag line. Furniture is excellent with crisp texturing overall. Mechanically excellent. This is one revolver missing from nearly every collection, don’t lose out on making it a part of yours!
Estimate: 5,000 - 7,000
